About This Pub

Ah, The Moorings—it's one of those places that really pulls you in with its picturesque spot right by the River Soar in Barrow upon Soar. I've got to say, chatting about it with you lot, it's got that charming, rustic feel mixed with a fresh Italian touch, making it ideal for a laid-back meal or just popping in for a drink. The food's a standout; their Sunday roasts are genuinely top-notch, with folks going on about the flavoursome meats and sides that leave you wanting more. Plus, it's great that they've thought of everyone—kids' menus and dog-friendly spots mean it's accessible for all. Prices won't break the bank either, which is always a win for a casual catch-up. On the flip side, though, service can be a bit of a mixed bag; some reviews mention waiting around for orders or drinks not showing up promptly, which is a shame when the setting's so inviting. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in the area, but maybe plan ahead to avoid any frustrations—keep an eye on the times and book a table if you can. It's got that homely charm that'll make you come back, as long as you're prepared for the occasional off moment.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The riverside location is absolutely stunning—sitting outside with a drink in hand, watching the water go by, makes for a proper relaxing afternoon.
  • The food is a real highlight; their Sunday roasts are spot on, with one mate raving about the trio of meats and that tasty mash—it's hearty and full of flavour.
  • It's family-friendly with a children's menu and even dog-friendly areas, so you can bring the whole gang without any fuss.
  • Prices are pretty reasonable for what you get, making it a great spot for a casual bite or a chilled evening out.
  • The atmosphere has that rustic warmth with a modern Italian twist, perfect for unwinding with friends over good grub and drinks.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit hit or miss; some folks have waited ages for their orders, like one review mentioning a 40-minute wait even when it wasn't busy.
  • Drinks sometimes take forever to arrive, which can put a dampener on things if you're looking for a quick pint.
  • Experiences vary—while the food's generally brilliant, a few have noted it feeling inconsistent, especially during busier times.
  • It might not be the best for spontaneous visits if there's an event on, as it could get a tad overwhelming.

Wanted to try somewhere new, the pub seemed very lovely and nice food options. Had a table booked for dinner, we ended up leaving as we waited over 40 minutes and our food order was not taken, there were only two other tables full in the restaurant- one who shortly had the bill and left and the other who had their food already. Was advised they were busy when my partner went to settle the bill for the drinks. when they bought our drinks over initially, they said they would be back to take our order and never did.

A super place for bites or lunch. A drink to chill with friends. Very nice outdoor space just next to the river. Reasonable prices on the menu card Highly recommended.

I do not take reviews and especially Sunday roasts lightly but I have to say first time visitor and that was the best Sunday roast I have every had! Trio of meats (with added red Leicester mash) was insane and can still taste it! Will definitely be coming back again!

Lunch with work colleague. Shown to table but left alone for 15 mins. Then Drinks order taken but no drinks arrived? Then order food which 20 mins later just after our drinks. The food was very good and worth the wait. No time left for dessert.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Moorings in Barrow for an impromptu evening meal and drinks. Given the timing, I was initially concerned that the atmosphere might be a bit too rowdy due to the ongoing England game. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the experience.Upon arrival, I was struck by the beautiful surroundings and the spacious, open-plan design of the restaurant and pub. The Moorings boasts a lovely selection of drinks on tap and an enticing array of cocktails that immediately caught my eye. Although I had a table booked, it was somewhat challenging to get the attention of the staff, despite the establishment not being particularly busy. Nevertheless, once we settled in, the experience improved markedly. We decided to sample a variety of dishes: the Salami Pizza, the Squid, Truffle Fries, and Arancini Balls. Each dish arrived piping hot and fresh. The pizza was delightful, and the truffle fries were a particular highlight, offering a rich and savory taste. The arancini balls were equally satisfying. The only downside was the squid, which was slightly rubbery and overcooked. One of the most charming aspects of The Moorings is the presence of very quiet, idyllic pods that add significantly to the ambiance, offering a serene escape within the lively establishment.Overall, I would rate my experience at The Moorings an 8 out of 10. It is a lovely spot for a relaxed evening meal and drinks, with a few minor improvements needed to reach perfection.
