About This Pub

Ah, The Three Crowns in Nottingham – it's one of those local spots that just feels like a proper British pub, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it with folks, the staff are the real stars here; they're friendly and helpful, making you feel right at home whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for the evening. The atmosphere is spot on for enjoying live sports or catching up with mates, and it's all at a price that won't leave your wallet weeping – think excellent value for a solid night out. Happy hour and some menu items, like that festive buffet, get rave reviews for being spot-on and lifting your spirits. But, and I say this as a mate giving straight advice, the food can be a bit of a mixed bag. We've heard tales of dishes not quite matching the menu, like a hunters chicken turning up without the salad or steak that's overdone, and some appetisers coming out cold and underwhelming. It's a shame because the place has so much going for it, but if you're heading there, maybe stick to the drinks and simpler options to avoid any letdowns. Overall, it's a solid choice for a laid-back visit, especially if you're in the Hockley area, but keep expectations realistic for the grub – that way, you're in for a good time without any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really make you feel welcome, like chatting with old mates behind the bar.
  • It's got a brilliant atmosphere for catching the big matches or just relaxing with friends over a drink and a bite.
  • Excellent value for money, perfect if you're after an affordable spot for a meal or a few rounds without breaking the bank.
  • Some dishes really hit the spot, especially if you're going for the festive buffet or enjoying happy hour deals.
  • The place has a great vibe for groups, whether it's for a casual meet-up or something more lively.
Cons
  • Food can be a bit hit or miss; for instance, some meals arrive without all the expected sides, like a hunters chicken missing its salad.
  • Certain dishes might not live up to the menu, such as overcooked steak or a dry pie with watery gravy that leaves you wanting more.
  • Occasionally, the presentation falls short, like getting cold, wet tortillas instead of proper hummus and flatbread as described.
  • It might not always deliver on consistency, which can be disappointing if you're hoping for a reliably tasty meal.
  • While the drinks are spot on, the overall experience could be lifted if the kitchen paid a bit more attention to details.

We came in on 24/4/25 as we had a voucher to use. The lady behind the bar was absolutely lovely but the food was very disappointing. I ordered a hunters chicken and it came with no side salad at all. Just chicken and chips with BBQ sauce. My husband had steak which was overcooked and had to be returned.

Ordered hummus and flatbread with paprika seasoning and cucumber sticks. Got served ice cold, wet tortillas with hummus with no seasoning and ice cold, wet lettuce. Not expecting miracles. Just what was on the menu. My partner ordered the pie which was dry as anything and gravy which was like water. I am sure it's a grand spot for a pint, but we moved on fairly quickly. Avoid if you want food.

Always enjoy going for a meal here, it's a lovely atmosphere and they know how to make a proper blackcurrant and soda that you can actually taste! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending this place

We booked the festive buffet for 25 pensioners and everything was perfect. The food was lovely and all the staff was super friendly. We honestly couldn't fault anything, we would definitely recommend the festive buffet if you are a group looking for somewhere to eat. We're booking for next year and can't wait.
