About This Pub

Ah, The Swing Gate – it's one of those local spots that really pulls you in with its homely charm. From what I've gathered from folks' chats online, the staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, whether you're a regular or just passing through, and it's spot on for a good laugh with mates or even if you've got your dog in tow. I love how it's kept clean and tidy, giving it that proper pub feel without any fuss. On the flip side, though, it's not the place to head for a top-notch meal; a few have mentioned the breakfasts coming out dry and underwhelming, which is a shame when there are better options nearby. And if you're someone who likes a bit of variety in your beers or a peaceful evening, you might find the limited choices or the odd loud session a bit off-putting. All in all, it's a solid choice for good company and a straightforward pint, but keep expectations realistic for the grub – just like any local haunt, it's got its highs and lows.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • It's got a really warm and sociable atmosphere, especially great for groups or if you're popping in for a casual catch-up.
  • The pub is clean and well-presented, which always makes for a more enjoyable visit.
  • It's super dog-friendly, so if you're out with your furry friend, this place is a winner.
Cons
  • The food can be a bit hit or miss – some breakfasts have been overcooked and not up to scratch, leaving a few disappointed.
  • Beer options are limited, with only a couple on draught, which might not satisfy those after a wider selection.
  • It can get quite noisy at times, like with a loud DJ playing, which might spoil the vibe if you're after a quiet pint.

The breakfast experience was poor. Food was overcooked and dry and of poor quality. Much better breakfast food available locally. I think it has potential but I felt their heart isn't in looking at what they are bringing to the table. I was totally disappointed. I have been kind giving three stars, and that is because th e server was so lovely and did bring out some fried eggs that were acceptable, but only just. Probably a chef issue here!?

A shadow of its former self. No draught beer (except John Smiths electric). 6.30pm Saturday afternoon and D.J. playing at his loudest. He got a cheer from the few customers when he stopped. I will not be back.
