About This Pub
Ah, The Swan Inn – what a lovely spot it is, tucked away in the heart of Mountsorrel with its rich history dating back to the 17th century. I have to say, it's one of those places that really pulls you in with its authentic feel; imagine sinking into a comfy chair by a crackling log burner on a winter's day, or lounging in the sun-drenched garden with a view of the River Soar come spring. The beers are a highlight for me – they've got this great range of real ales and their own microbrewery creations that always hit the spot, and the staff go out of their way to make you feel at home, which is just what you want from a good pub. It's dog-friendly too, so it's perfect for a casual outing with friends or family. On the flip side, though, the outside could use a bit of TLC; it feels a little tired and might not wow you straight away. And if you're hoping for a hearty meal, well, it's not really on offer beyond the occasional Bistro Night, so you'd be better off grabbing a bite elsewhere first. All in all, it's a gem for beer enthusiasts and those after a relaxed, historic atmosphere, but keep expectations in check for the food side of things – still, I'd pop in again in a heartbeat for the vibes alone.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The historic charm of this Grade II listed building is absolutely enchanting, with original features that make you feel like you're stepping back in time.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of real ales, craft beers, and their own Soar Brewing Company brews on site – perfect for anyone who loves a good pint.
-
The cosy rooms with roaring log burners are just the ticket on a chilly evening, and the large garden overlooking the River Soar is a treat when the sun's out.
-
The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a warm atmosphere that's great for catching up with mates or even bringing along your furry four-legged friend.
-
It's a proper village pub with a vibrant feel, ideal for enjoying a drink in a relaxed setting without any fuss.
Cons
-
The outside area could do with a bit of a refresh; it looks a tad worn and might not make the best first impression.
-
Food options are quite limited – it's mostly just pub snacks, with Bistro Nights only happening twice a month, so it's not the place if you're after a proper meal.

Lovely village pub with loads of character, great beer and lovely atmosphere
Lovely 17th Century Pub that backs onto the river soar, with great selection of ales, lagers and ciders.. Castle Rock Harvest Pale was good as always, then tried their always good guest goldon ale too. Theakstons on as usual and the guest Camden Hells been on for a while but always served fresh and cool👌 place was busy with friendly locals and their dogs.. lovely friendly staff who are always happy to talk and are very knowledgeable about their ales and fine array of bar snacks.
Excellent selection of real ales, good choice of wines, and spirits. The building is over 300 years old and the current owners have been mindful not to rip its guts out and chalk paint everything. Lovely original features, gorgeous garden with the river at the bottom. Food is pub snacks, cobs, sausage rolls, and yummy local pork pies and scotch eggs. Regular monthly themed Bistro nights. Staff are friendly, and knowledgeable of their products. Love, love, love this local pub and very lucky to live so near to it. Use your locals while we still have some great ones left!!!
