Came for Father’s day without booking and the staff were very helpful, found us a table, our dog, Reggie(who is deaf and blind) was exceptionally well looked after and made a fuss of, they even made him some extra gravy to have with his doggy roast dinner! Fair selection of vegan food, which was delicious. Unfortunately they’d sold out of the vegan cheese cake, so we’ll have to come back to try that! Definitely worth a visit, reasonably priced, fantastic staff and great views to enjoy whilst having a fabulous meal. More vegan desserts please 🙏!
Five Stars – Absolutely Fantastic All Round!
Called into The Swan and Goose at Barden Marina on a whim, without a booking, and they still managed to fit us in—brilliant start! The food was absolutely wonderful and well worth the wait, as everything is freshly cooked to order. I had the chicken and stuffing sandwich, and the missus went for the gnocchi—both spot on. Washed down with a lovely pint of guest ale for me and a gin for her, followed by a nice cup of tea and coffee to finish.
Service was great, friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The views over the marina are stunning, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality. We even got a bit of live entertainment courtesy of the swan chasing the goose around the water—made us smile! Highly recommend and will definitely be back.
Called in as a foursome for lunch, table booked for 12.30.
Food is on point, service not so.
The setting is undeniably attractive and their small dining area was warm (a little too warm at times) with a beautiful log burning stove in the corner.
We all agreed that the food was delicious. However, our ordering somehow got mixed up, one to many cola brought to our table, 4 people 5 drinks?
We ordered 2 portions onion rings as sides with our main, only one portion arrived (their loss).
Prior to ordering, I did ask the waitress for each couple to pay their own separate bill - that didn’t happen!
Worth a mention, they prefer cash payments, having no cash on us we had to pay by card.
I don’t know, maybe the waiting staff were having a bad day, and I don’t like to be negative, but I would be lying if I’d said that all went well.
However, constructive criticism can help businesses to improve.
This is our go to spot on a Sunday. After 20miles on the bike fuel & hydration is required. Cold San Miguel with Salt & Pepper chips & Salt & Pepper Chicken times 2
Good sized portions hot n tasty.
This week a guitarist entertained the diners.
Friends have been coming to The Swan & Goose for years (under previous managements) and invited us to go as the new owners recently added vegan options to the menu. The place is lovely and cosy and has a balcony and outdoor seating, perfect to sit in nice weather and soak up the fabulous views over the marina and beyond.
We had wild mushrooms in a cream sauce on sourdough and gnocchi with smokey butternut squash sauce, roast squash and toasted hazelnuts. The food was fantastic, we could not fault it, great flavours, perfectly cooked and seasoned. We had a chat with chef Matt who was enthusiastic about cooking his vegan dishes and I cannot wait to see what else is on the menu in the future. We were too full for the vegan chocolate cake though.
The staff were lovely too, friendly and helpful, I can understand why our friends love it so much.
