About This Pub

You know, when you step into The Sutton Arms, it's like wrapping yourself in a big, comforting hug – that warm, cosy feel really sets the tone for a relaxing evening. The staff are just lovely, always making you feel welcome and sorting out little things like storing your bags, which is a nice touch. They've nailed the drinks menu too, with a cracking selection of craft beers, wines, and cask ales that cater to all tastes, and don't even get me started on those charcuterie boards and cheeses; they're absolute winners for a light bite. The upstairs wine room adds a bit of variety for something more special, and the outdoor seating is great on a sunny day. On the downside, it's a tad small, so if it's busy, you might end up elbow-to-elbow, and those prices can sneak up on you if you're not watching the tab. All in all, it's a solid spot for a catch-up with mates in the heart of London, but it's worth checking ahead to avoid any surprises.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pub has a wonderfully warm and cosy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home, especially after a long day or a flight in.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always going the extra mile to make sure you're looked after.
  • They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from craft beers and cask ales to an impressive range of wines, perfect for a proper pint or a tasting session.
  • The food options are spot on, with delicious charcuterie boards and British cheeses that pair beautifully with your drink.
  • There's a nice upstairs wine room and some outdoor seating, giving you options for a more intimate or al fresco vibe when the weather plays along.
Cons
  • It's a bit on the small side, so it can feel quite cramped during peak times, making it tricky to find a spot.
  • Prices are a touch steep for drinks, like that double whisky coming in at £11, which might put a dent in your wallet if you're out for the evening.
  • It seems to be closed one day a week, which could throw a spanner in the works if you're planning a spontaneous visit.

We enjoyed a late night drink on our arrival from the airport. Very inviting, warm, cosy pub with friendly staff who made us feel very welcome, and looked after our luggage for us while we had a drink.

This is a nice Fuller's pub. It is rather small but they do have an upstairs wine room and limited exterior seating. I opted for a double Makers Mark (£11) which is at the top end of the price range. The cheapest whisky is £5, Johnnie Walker red. They had 3 cask ales including London Pride at £6.25. They also offer a limited food menu, mainly toasties starting at £8. The large bay window and skylark provide ample natural light. The toilets are upstairs which may be difficult for the less mobile. In summary a nice bar with excellent service.

Balanced with quality, this is, externally a beautiful pub. With decorative tiling & a fabulous vintage curved, bay window & recessed bubble glass entry. Internally the bar in general is a quality blend of modernised heritage. The dark polished floor& broad skylight set against modernised bench seating & mirrored walls to create a sense of space within a relatively simple box layout. The decoratively papered ceiling & walls is too well hidden but it a reasonable balance to blend the beauty of the front with a modern, polite drinking space. Echoed in the polite, well mannered service.

A small and very traditional pub provided an enjoyable evening drink. The bar staff are very friendly and welcoming and there’s a good range of drinks on offer. It’s also great that they have a wine tasting machine - purchase a card and dispense as much or little of each bottle to sample different varieties. Just a shame there weren’t many bottles included. The atmosphere is relaxing, with no background music and the small size means there isn’t much chatter. Toilets are upstairs along with another space. My only complaint would be the very high prices - a double gin and glass of wine came to almost thirty pounds which felt very excessive. But otherwise I’d recommend for a relaxing and peaceful evening.

Good pub less than 10 minutes walk from the Barbican Centre. Four cask beers on handpump when I last visited. Ground floor bar together with a wine room upstairs. Plenty of standing room outside on a relatively quiet street.
