About This Pub

Ah, the Jugged Hare – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its charm, tucked away in the heart of the City. I've got to say, the food here is a standout; they really nail the seasonal British fare, with game and wild ingredients that make you feel like you're getting something truly special. Their Sunday roasts are something else – imagine tucking into beef that's so tender it practically melts, paired with veggies that keep their flavour without going mushy. And the staff? They're an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and that extra touch that turns a good meal into a great one. It's got this beautiful, relaxed pub feel that's perfect for a catch-up or a special occasion, and the location near the Barbican makes it dead handy for a quick stop before an event. But, let's keep it real, it's not all perfect – I've heard a few tales of the food not quite hitting the mark, like the beef letting the side down on occasion, and the wine list can be a bit unreliable, with stock issues that might frustrate you if you're a wine buff. Plus, things do get pricey, so it's worth budgeting for if you're planning a night out. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for anyone wanting a bit of quality without the fuss, and I'd definitely pop in again for another go at those roasts.

Jugged Hare is a beautifully designed restaurant in a great location, offering a stylish and inviting interior. We visited for Sunday roast and tried the cauliflower cheese as well. While the setting was lovely and the service decent, the food didn’t quite meet expectations—especially the beef, which was unfortunately very chewy and not tender at all. Given the high prices, the quality of the roast was disappointing. It’s a nice place for the ambiance, but the food experience could definitely be improved to match the premium pricing.

Five stars because the food was incredible, and the service from Lauren was extraordinary; Lauren went above and beyond to make sure we had a great evening. My only concern was that the wine list is being poorly managed; the bar manager clearly isn’t staying on top of ordering as two of the wines we ordered were just not available (and the alternatives offered just didn’t compare). Luckily the kitchen made sure every course was outstanding. Huge thanks to Lauren, and Ralph - the Head Chef - for a a fantastic meal.

A pub and restaurant, very convenient for eating & drinking before events at the Barbican. Had the Sunday Roast, booking in advance, and had not really realised that it would be more of a restaurant than a pub experience. Our table was in the large, lower dining area, and we enjoyed a roast (me) and a skate wing (my friend). I think the lamb could have been cooked slightly longer, at a lower temperature, to make the meat a bit more tender, but all good. Good-sized helpings. We also noticed a private dining room one level below; useful for future reference.

This a great place to grab a traditional meal and should equally make it onto every tourist and local Londoners list. Really tasty food, served up in wonderful surroundings. Drinks are a little bit pricey, but it’s worth every penny for the experience. Would definitely recommend for any occasion, from a quiet Sunday lunch to a team get together.

We had a lunch here and the place is really nice, characteristic and the staff is really polite and friendly. I had a good steak, cooked as I asked (medium-well) and tasty. It was a real pleasure to stop by in this pub/restaurant during out visit to the City of London.
