About This Pub
Ah, The Sun of Camberwell – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a welcoming local haunt, tucked away in South London and buzzing with that community spirit. From what I've gathered from the reviews, the food is a standout; think hearty Sunday roasts with crispy pork belly or fresh BBQ from their shack, all made with seasonal ingredients that hit the spot every time. The staff are an absolute delight, always on hand with a smile and a chat, making sure everything runs smoothly without being over the top. And the vibe? It's got this lovely mix of a bright open bar, cosy seating, and those beer gardens that are ideal for a sunny afternoon or an evening under the stars, especially with live music and DJs adding to the fun. On the flip side, it does get quite lively on busier nights, so if you're hoping for a peaceful pint, you might want to time your visit right. Prices are fair but not the cheapest, which could add up if you're in for a full meal and drinks. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a good time with great grub – I'd say it's worth a visit for a relaxed meal or to catch some live sport, and you'll likely leave with a smile.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely brilliant – fresh, seasonal ingredients in modern British pub dishes like delicious roasts, BBQ specials, and crispy fish and chips with generous portions that leave you satisfied.
-
Service is top-notch and really welcoming; staff like Lewis and Matilda go the extra mile to make you feel at home, with attentive and personable touches that make for a memorable visit.
-
The atmosphere is just lovely, with a charming boho-chic vibe, spacious beer gardens, and fun events like live music, DJ nights, and even life drawing sessions that keep things lively and engaging.
-
It's a proper community spot in South London, open seven days a week with an open kitchen so you can watch the chefs at work, plus options for private hires and outdoor areas that add to the appeal.
Cons
-
It can get a bit bustling during peak times or events, which might make it tricky to find a quiet spot if you're after a relaxed evening.
-
With moderate prices, it might feel a tad on the pricey side for everyday visits, especially if you're just popping in for a quick drink and a bite.

We came here for a family meal and everything from the food to the service was spot on. Lewis was attentive and personable, he made sure we were looked after all night and had everything we needed. We all tried food from the new BBQ shack and it was delicious with big portions. Overall experience 10/10.
Stopped in the Sun today for a quick drink and a little bite to eat. My husband and I shared the Fish and chips meal and was really pleased with the fish. The batter was nice and crispy, it reminded crispy for quite some time which was good. The Fish was a good size and clearly fresh. The chips we found disappointing as they seemed over cooked, being triple cooked was in our opinion cooked too much. Mushy peas, well they were mushy. The size and price of meal was very good and definitely recommend the meal.
We had such a great time—loved the live music and the DJ was absolutely fantastic. The fish with curry sauce was delicious! A special thank you to the lovely lady at the bar who kindly made us mocktails since we don’t drink alcohol. Truly appreciated the warm and thoughtful service. 😊
Thank for serving us Matilda.
Loved the food, the roast has gotten even better since the renovations.
Also visited Friday night for drinks, great atmosphere and the new BBQ shack does a delicious beef burger with fries. Live music and DJ was super fun.
See you again very soon ;)
Lovely boho- chic pub, friendly and knowledgeable staff including the talented cooks. Convivial ambience, a place you’d want to settle in and not go anywhere else. I had one of the most delicious Sunday roasts- beef, cracking pork belly- crispy and yummy, just the right flavours. They offer vegan options too. Usually pubs have really salty food, but it’s different here and the plating was great too! A lovely Mother’s day treat! Thank you!
