About This Pub

Ah, The Stretton Fox, what a cracking little spot it is! Tucked away in Warrington with its roots in an old country house, it's got that timeless charm that makes you feel like you've stepped into a proper British pub tale. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food's a standout – folks rave about the fish and chips or those signature burgers, all served up hot and tasty, with plenty of options for hearty meals that hit the spot. The staff go the extra mile, being super attentive and making sure everyone's happy, which is just what you want on a family outing or a quiet evening. And let's not forget the gorgeous gardens and cosy log fires; they're ideal for soaking up the countryside views, especially if you're popping in with your dog for a wander. On the flip side, it does get mobbed at peak times, so planning ahead is a must to snag a table, and while most experiences are top-notch, that 4.2 rating suggests there might be the occasional hiccup. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers – honest, welcoming, and with just enough character to keep you coming back for more.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think hearty pub classics like fish and chips or burgers that leave you wanting more, all made with real care.
  • The staff are lovely and really attentive, making you feel right at home, whether you're there for a quick pint or a big family do.
  • It's got this charming, relaxing vibe with beautiful gardens and cosy log fires, perfect for unwinding after a walk.
  • Dog-friendly setup means you can bring your furry mate along, which is a real bonus for us who love a pub that welcomes everyone.
  • Great for special occasions, with a welcoming atmosphere that makes celebrations feel special without any fuss.
Cons
  • It can get pretty packed on weekends and bank holidays, so you might need to book ahead to avoid waiting around.
  • While the overall rating is solid, there might be the odd off day, as not every review is five stars, so it's worth checking if it's your first visit.
  • The place is out in the countryside, which is lovely, but if you're not local, it could feel a bit out of the way for a spontaneous stop.

This was our second visit, and it was excellent on both occasions. The food, drink and staff are all great and the atmosphere is really relaxing. Our second visit was on 28th May 2025 around 1.30pm and maybe because it was a bank holiday/school half term it was very busy but by the time we left around 3pm it was much more quite, being busy didn't seem to effect the service it was still reasonably quick and the staff were managing very well. If you've been before, you know it good, if you haven't been before, then give it a try. You'll not be disappointed.

Had this places saved on my places to try list for a while. We hadn't booked but was able to get a table, however in future I would book if it's a weekend as it filled up very quickly. We had a table of 4, 2 of us had buttermilk chicken burger which was so nice, my daughter had the fish finger sandwich and hubby had the beef brisket. Food was hot, served reasonably quickly, all good and tasty and not overly priced. Definitely go again

A wonderful family celebration meal for my mother in laws 85th birthday. We were made to feel important by everyone, Helen was our server and very attentive constantly checking that everyone was happy, which is hard when you’re a party of 15. Food was great, hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend and return.

We came tonight 7:30 with the January 50 percent off code. We had sharing Camembert to start With a signature burger main each Both were absolutely delicious it was one of the nicest meals with no complaints. (Apart from being greedy and full ;) ) Well done kitchen! Would like to give our waitress emma a special thanks. She was extremely nice and welcoming even tho we could see how hard she was working for a very full restaurant, she still made our time very enjoyable, nothing was much trouble! She is very good at her job and on the ball, if I ran somewhere like this this ( I wish ) I would want staff like her. Well done we will return again.
