About This Pub
Ah, The Steam Coach in Hemel Hempstead is one of those pubs that really pulls you in with its charm – it's got this warm, inviting feel that's just right for a relaxed catch-up or a hearty meal. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the food is a standout; those massive portions on the Sunday roasts sound like they'd satisfy even the hungriest among us, and the beers are always on point for a proper pint. The beer garden is a gem too, especially when the weather's playing ball, offering up some lovely views that make it hard to leave. They've got live music and events that add a bit of excitement, which is brilliant if you're in the mood for a singalong, but it can get a touch too noisy now and then, making conversation a bit of a challenge. On the flip side, service is mostly efficient, though a few have said it's not always the warmest welcome, and if you're hoping for a wider choice of hot drinks on a chilly evening, you might find it a bit lacking. All things considered, it's a solid spot for a good time, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and maybe avoid the peak hours – definitely one I'd recommend giving a go if you're in the area.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on, with massive portions that make you feel like you've had a proper feast – think generous Sunday roasts that'll keep you going for days
-
It's got a really cosy and welcoming vibe inside, perfect for settling in with a pint and some mates
-
They've got a great selection of beers on tap, always a winner for a good night out
-
The beer garden at the back is lovely, especially on a sunny day, with great views to boot
-
Live music and events add a fun buzz to the place, making it feel lively without being overwhelming most of the time
-
Service is generally efficient and helpful, which makes popping in for a meal or drink a breeze
-
Handy location with street parking, so it's easy to get to and not a hassle after a few drinks
Cons
-
It can get a bit of a wait when things are busy, which might put a dampener on your plans if you're in a rush
-
Some folks have mentioned the staff aren't always the friendliest, which is a shame as it could make the welcome feel a tad off
-
Live entertainment, like the pianist, can be a bit too loud at times, making it hard to chat over a drink
-
Not much variety in hot drinks, especially during the winter months, so if you're after something warm and different, you might be out of luck

Absolutely beautiful Sunday roast it was like man vs food massive portions see you when I lose a stone
Great little pub, cosy inside, good food, bit of a wait when busy. Will definitely go again.
A really lovely pub. The live pianist was unnecessarily loud, but they always have good beers and good service. I wish there was a bit more variety of hot drinks, especially in the winter. But I'll be back again.
Nice rear beer garden and lovely at the front too with great views.
On the down side, I would say, the staff are not very welcoming...but that's just my experience.
Nice pub, where we went for a live music show doing a set myself.
Good food. Enough space. Good location with parking at the streetside.
Had a lovely lunch time with music and food.
