About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Starting Gate Micro Pub – it's one of those hidden gems in Wolverhampton that really hits the mark for a good night out. I've heard from folks who've popped in that the beer selection is brilliant; they've got a solid range of well-kept ales and spirits that are always in top form, and it's all at prices that won't make you wince. The staff are an absolute delight too, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels welcome, which gives the place such a friendly, homely buzz. It's ideal if you're after a relaxed pint or two with mates, and those fresh cobs at just £1.80 are a bargain you won't want to miss. On the flip side, though, the food choices are pretty straightforward – think simple snacks rather than a proper menu, so if you're peckish for something more substantial, you might have to plan ahead. Plus, being a micro pub, it's not the biggest space, so it can feel a bit snug if it gets busy, and without a website, it's not always easy to get the lowdown online. All in all, it's a fantastic spot for beer lovers, but keep those points in mind for the best experience – I'd say it's well worth seeking out for a proper pint and a good natter.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The beer selection is absolutely spot on – plenty of well-kept real ales and a good mix of spirits, making it a treat for any beer enthusiast.
-
Prices are really reasonable, especially for the fresh cobs and other snacks; you won't break the bank here compared to some other spots.
-
The atmosphere is just lovely, with a welcoming vibe and fantastic staff who make you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
-
It's a proper community feel, perfect for a relaxed catch-up or trying something new on the ale front.
Cons
-
Food options are a bit limited, mostly just cobs and the occasional pasty or pork pie, so if you're after a full meal, you might need to look elsewhere.
-
There's no website to check out the latest details, which can make planning a visit a tad tricky.
-
As a micro pub, it's on the smaller side, so it might get cosy on busier evenings and not ideal for larger groups.

Very welcoming being new to area absolute a gem of a pub. a must try for all it really is a fantastic pub with a great selection of beers and spirits staff all fantastic and service is amazing keep up good work 👏🏻 🙌🏻 😊
Wonderful micro pub. Doesn’t do food (though there are cobs and sometimes pasties or pork pies) but the beer is excellent. Four real ales minimum and one is usually a dark beer/stout/porter. Good selection of spirits. Very reasonably priced compared to some other local offerings. Excellent gaffer and staff. A really friendly place and the heart of the local community.
