About This Pub

Ah, The Stanhope Arms – it's one of those classic London pubs that just feels like a proper hideaway in the heart of South Kensington. I have to say, what really stands out is the fresh, homely food; think hearty British dishes that come out piping hot and full of flavour, paired with that crisp Greene King ale that's always a treat. The staff are an absolute delight, quick to help and making sure everyone feels welcome, which makes it ideal for popping in after work or catching up with mates. It's got this lovely historic charm with high ceilings and a cosy atmosphere, and being family and dog-friendly means it's versatile for all sorts of visits. Plus, with sports on the screens, it's a top pick if you're into your football or rugby. On the flip side, though, some folks have mentioned the portions aren't always generous for the price tag – you might end up feeling it's a bit pricey for what lands on your plate, especially if you're expecting more bang for your buck. Still, it's a solid spot overall, and I'd recommend giving it a go if you're in the area, just keep in mind it might be quieter during the day, so plan accordingly for that lively pub vibe in the evenings.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is fresh and tasty, with classic British dishes that hit the spot after a long day.
  • Staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • It's got that warm, historic Victorian vibe with high ceilings and a welcoming atmosphere, perfect for a cosy catch-up.
  • Brilliant for watching live sports like football or rugby on the screens, with a great selection of beers on tap.
  • Super convenient location right opposite Gloucester Road tube, and it's family-friendly and even dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole gang.
Cons
  • Portions can be on the small side for the price, like with some sandwiches feeling a bit skimpy.
  • Prices are a tad steep for what you get, giving off more of a premium feel when the quality might not always match up.
  • It can get quiet at off-peak times, which is nice for a peaceful visit, but might lack buzz if you're after a lively crowd.

Great first stop after arriving in London. Food was all fresh tasting and came out at a good pace, and staff was helpful. We arrived around 5 and it was not too busy to get a table for 3.

Whenever I’m back in my old neighborhood for a visit, this is where the first and last place I go (we don’t get the Greene King Abbot cask ale stateside so I gotta get my fix). They’ll have sports up on the screens and good food. Highly recommend!

Great Atmosphere and Friendly Service at the Stanhope Arms Stopped in at the Stanhope Arms in South Kensington for a few afterwork drinks and we had a pleasant experience. The pub has a warm, classic feel with a welcoming atmosphere. I had the Level Head from Greene King – crisp and refreshing – while my friend enjoyed the Estrella Galicia. The bartender was friendly and attentive, making us feel right at home. Service was quick, and the overall vibe was relaxed and enjoyable. Looking at other visitor tables, food was looking tasty, sadly we came for the drinks only 😆 and didn’t try any food. A great spot for a pint if you’re in the area – highly recommended!

Weatherspoons Quality but Mayfair Prices. Ordered the Steak Sandwich for Around £10 plus around £4 for sweet potato fries and a pint of Old Mount Draft. Around £21 all together, which is what you would expect for Mayfair, but the bread was not toasted and only 2 small slices of steak per sandwich. Fires were also small. Many tables were left uncleaned from previous guests and my friend ordered small nibbles with his latte (which was bad even with Bailies in it) which tasted stale. The Match was on (Liverpool vs Newcastle) but even then...bad lighting so some parts of the screen looked blurred

We were actually walking to another restaurant when we passed by and thought we'd pop in. I'm so glad we did. The food was delicious. It was mid afternoon, so it was very quiet. The restaurant is beautiful with a historic and local feeling. Absolutely recommend The Stanhope Arms!
