About This Pub

Ah, The Old Swan – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local hideaway, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really steals the show; folks rave about the home-cooked meals and those Sunday lunches that leave you feeling chuffed, with everything from lamb kofta to steak and ale pie coming out spot on. The staff are dead helpful and create such a welcoming atmosphere, whether you're nipping in for a bite after a walk or enjoying the beer garden on a sunny day. It's especially brilliant if you're with your furry mate, as they've got all the extras sorted. On the flip side, it does get a bit mellow sometimes, which is lovely for a quiet chat but might not excite if you're after a more vibrant scene. And while the prices are fair for what you get, they could add up if you're planning regular trips. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed pint and a meal – I'd say give it a try if you're in the area, as it's got that homely charm that keeps people coming back.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food is absolutely spot on – think delicious pub classics, heavenly Sunday roasts, and standout dishes like steak with peppercorn sauce or a crispy buttermilk chicken burger that hits the spot every time.
  • It's incredibly dog-friendly, with bowls of water, treats on offer, and plenty of space inside and in the beer garden, making it perfect for a post-walk pit stop.
  • The staff are always friendly and welcoming, going the extra mile with great service, whether you're popping in for a quick lunch or hosting something special like a wake.
  • A lovely atmosphere with a cosy open fire in the front bar, a music-themed back area, and access to a decking space – ideal for relaxing with a pint of guest ale or a premium lager.
  • They've got a solid selection of drinks, from fine wines and guest ales to your favourite spirits, and it's open seven days a week for whenever the mood strikes.
Cons
  • It can be a tad quiet at times, especially during lunch hours, which might not suit those after a lively buzz – though that's just right if you're in the mood for a peaceful catch-up.
  • Being in a village setting, it's not the easiest spot if you're after a big, energetic night out, and the moderate prices might feel a bit steep for everyday visits.

What a lovely find whilst in the area. Beautiful village pub. Very welcoming. Nice range of food on the menu and drinks at the bar. The steak with peppercorn sauce was cooked to perfection. For dessert I had the biscoff cheesecake, this was heavenly. Outstanding service. Will definitely return. Well worth a road trip.

Hubby and I shared the Lamb kofta main....absolutely beautiful meal! Would highly recommend. We went at lunchtime, sat inside, was a little quiet but that was exactly what we wanted!

Beautiful dog-friendly pub. Super friendly staff. Nice outdoor patio area. Dinner was delicious. My crispy buttermilk chicken burger was divine with just the right amount of coleslaw and fries. Hubby loved his steak and ale pie with delish mash and green veg. Thank you to Chef Tom! Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed!
