About This Pub

Ah, The Speaker – it's one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a proper London local, where you can pop in for a refreshing pint and feel like you're part of the neighbourhood gang. From what I've gathered from folks' experiences, the standout bits are the friendly chatter and that brilliant array of beers and ales; the staff often go the extra mile with suggestions, and events like the weekly quiz keep things lively without being overwhelming. It's got all the nice touches too, like being dog-friendly and having a cosy setup that's perfect for catching up with friends on a quiet afternoon. On the flip side, though, there are times when service can feel a tad off, with a story or two about staff being a bit short-tempered, which might put a dampener on your evening. The small size means it fills up quickly, and since it's more geared towards events and room hires, sorting out a spot in advance isn't an option, so you might end up standing or popping in on a whim. All in all, if you're after a genuine, unpretentious pub experience in Westminster, it's worth a visit – just keep in mind it shines brightest for adults looking for a relaxed drink or a bit of fun, rather than something more structured.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely charming and welcoming, making it a perfect spot to unwind with mates over a pint.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers and real ales, with staff who are often spot-on with recommendations.
  • It's dog-friendly and has regular events like pub quizzes, which add a fun community vibe to the place.
  • Being in the heart of Westminster, it's conveniently located and feels like a cosy local hideaway amidst the hustle.
Cons
  • There have been a few reports of inconsistent service, with some staff coming across as a bit abrupt on occasion.
  • As it's primarily a room hire venue, you can't book tables for small groups, which might be a hassle for planning ahead.
  • The pub is quite small, so it can get packed during busy times, making it tricky to find a seat.
  • It's not the best for families, as children aren't allowed, which limits its appeal for certain outings.

Recent Reviews

I was at the pub last Friday and, in addition to the great variety of beers and super pleasant atmosphere, I was also very well attended to by Tassiane. She was very kind and recommended some beers that I hadn't tried yet. I don't usually write these reviews, but my husband and I enjoyed the service and the pub so much that I had to come here to leave my review. Next time I'm in London, I'll definitely be back.

I was with my friends and I was having a nice evening over a few drinks. However, one lady managing the bar took a dislike to us for no apparent reason. The lady came to us when we were laughing and having a good time and VERY RUDELY told us to shut up. We tried to be more quiet but despite that she told us we must leave, and attempted to take a photograph of us. We asked other tenants if the pub if we were being loud and they said we were being absolutely fine - which suggests to us that this bartender just took a dislike to us. It was 9pm and we were not being unruly. WOULD NOT COME AGAIN!!!

After a long travel day we stumbled into The Speaker to get a nice proper pint 🍺 and figure out the rest of our London plans. This place was perfect! Cozy, comfortable and great service. Enjoyed our pint next to a little hound puppy who obviously manages the place! Guinness was fresh and hot the spot.

A cozy and traditional pub in the heart of Westminster! Lively and buzzing with people during peak hours. It is a very small pub but they have some sitting upstairs too.

A truly great pub to stop by for a pint when you’re in the Westminster neighborhood. Staff are so friendly and knowledgeable. Unique layout downstairs with a nice meeting room upstairs. A really fun spot with an open, airy vibe on warm days and when Landlord is on cask, what could be better??
