About This Pub
Ah, The Barley Mow – it's one of those classic London pubs that just draws you in with its warm vibe and prime spot near Horseferry Road. From what I've gathered chatting about places like this, it's got that real community feel, where locals, office workers, and even families pop in for a pint or a hearty meal. The food stands out as a real winner; folks rave about the homemade dishes, like the braised pork belly or fish and chips, and it's brilliant to see Sunday roasts getting such love. Pair that with their passion for great beers, especially those local ales, and you've got a spot that's perfect for a relaxed afternoon or cheering on the big games. The service seems genuinely friendly too, with reviews highlighting how attentive the team is, making it feel like a proper local haunt. On the flip side, though, it's not all roses – there've been a couple of reports about mice scurrying about, which is a bit of a downer and something you'd hope they'd sort out pronto. Plus, the kitchen isn't flawless; a few bites have been a tad dry or off, so it might not be the place for a fancy dinner. All in all, if you're after a solid pub experience in the heart of things, I'd say give it a go – just go in with your eyes open and maybe check for any updates on their website. It's got that charm that keeps people coming back, but like any spot, it's got room to improve.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely spot on – think classic homemade pub grub like Sunday roasts and pies that hit the spot, with plenty of positive feedback on tasty portions and flavours.
-
They've got a cracking selection of real ales from London breweries, which is perfect if you're a beer enthusiast looking for something local and fresh.
-
It's a cosy spot with a great atmosphere, ideal for catching live sport on the big screens or just unwinding after work.
-
The staff are really welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home, especially if you're popping in for a quick bite or a special occasion.
Cons
-
There have been a few mentions of pests like mice, which is a real shame and could put some folks off, so it's worth keeping an eye out.
-
Some dishes might not always hit the mark, like an overcooked sausage roll in one review, suggesting the odd inconsistency in the kitchen.
-
It can get a bit busy, especially near Victoria or Westminster, so you might have to wait for a table or deal with a lively crowd.

Nice pub, wide selection of drinks. I stopped for a quick bite to eat, sausage roll was overcooked and dry but the katsu fries were amazing. My friend had the pie and said it was really good. Main issue with the place was that we saw more than one mouse on the premises whilst we were there, especially by the bar.
The food was fantastic, tasty and a good portion too. Compliments to the chef! Mum and I will definitely be back.
Popped in for a midday snack and was blown away by the delectable Braised Pork Belly on the small plates menu. Reasonably priced for the volume & quality. Nice selection of food & drink offerings (Beavertown Gamma Ray paired perfectly with the pork & red onion & cabbage coleslaw.) Midday Monday so not busy, staff super nice & helpful and right decent outdoor seating with shaded areas. Decor on point. Can recommend if ya in the area and need some good food & beverages.
Absolutely delightful and incredibly cosy, the music fills the air with warmth, and the service is truly exceptional.
