About This Pub

Ah, The Southfields – it's one of those pubs that really warms you up when you step inside, especially if you're in Bolton and after a spot for some honest, good-value food and a chat. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their own blurb, the staff are the real stars here; folks like Emma and Lou get mentioned for being super attentive and making everyone feel welcome, which is just what you want on a cosy evening out. The menu's got that classic pub feel with a sizzle – burgers, skillets, and plenty of options for veggies – and it's all at prices that won't leave you shocked. It's brilliant for families or if you're up for watching the game with your lot, and they even pitch in with local charities, which gives it that community spirit. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; a few reviews point out that food can take ages to arrive, even when it's quiet, and sometimes it doesn't quite hit the mark – like a bland burger or something that's been left on the grill a tad too long. Still, with an overall rating hovering around 4 out of 5, it seems most people have a great time, so I'd say it's worth a go if you're in the area, just maybe set aside a bit more time than you might expect.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely lovely and really go the extra mile, making you feel right at home with their friendly chats and attentive service.
  • The food is spot on for the price – think tasty sizzling skillets, flame-grilled burgers, and even some great vegan and vegetarian options that don't break the bank.
  • It's a proper relaxed spot, perfect for catching up with mates over a drink, watching the footie, or enjoying a family meal in a welcoming atmosphere.
  • They're all about being part of the community, supporting local charities and offering their function area for free, which is a nice touch if you're looking for a pub with heart.
Cons
  • Wait times for food can be a bit of a drag, especially when it's not too busy, leaving you twiddling your thumbs longer than you'd like.
  • The quality of the food isn't always consistent – some dishes might turn out bland or overcooked, which is a shame after all that anticipation.
  • Service can feel hit or miss; while it's brilliant on good days, it might slow down when things get hectic, making for a less smooth visit.

Another great meal had by all the family again this afternoon, second time this week we have visited. The service was first class, the food well cooked and arrived in a timely manner. Really nice friendly staff who go above and beyond. Can't wait for our next visit.

Love coming here every Sunday for tea. Lovely staff; special mention to Lou for always being so pleasant and happy to help! Food is always delicious and hot, quick to come out even when they are busy. Lovely relaxed atmosphere even when the football is on. Feels like a home away from home thanks to all the lovely staff who work so hard.

Food took an hour to come and the place seemed relatively empty. I ordered the boss burger which came well presented but was bland. My partner the beef short rib which had been cremated. The full thing was burnt. Drinks arrived within minutes of ordering which was perhaps the only real good point

The food took 35minutes to come after ordering and that was after asking the bar where our food was. The food itself was nice and the level to be expected from a pub chain, but the time taken to get it was not expected. We also ordered deserts which again took 30 minutes to arrive after we went to the bar to ask where our food was and the ticket for the deserts still being at the bar. The room we sat in had 6 tables, 4 of which had customers at when we arrived, they all gradually left until we were last in the room, all the tables from those customers had dirty plates and glasses til we left 1hr 30mins later. The orders were for 3 adults and 2 kids, costing £78, and honestly don’t think it was worth it. I’ve been coming here from time to time from being a kid and 100% has declined in quality.
