About This Pub

So, chatting about the Elephant & Castle in Bolton, it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a laid-back evening. From the reviews, folks are really chuffed with the prices – nabbing a pint for £3 is brilliant, and it keeps things accessible without skimping on quality. The food sounds mouthwatering too; imagine tucking into a spicy chicken burger with waffle chips or some vanilla ice cream drizzled in chocolate sauce – it's all about those simple pleasures that leave you wanting more. The team there come across as genuinely lovely, remembering regulars and handling any hiccups with a smile, which adds a nice personal touch. On the other hand, it's a shame the website's playing up with access problems, and not having clear opening times could throw a spanner in the works if you're trying to plan ahead. All in all, if you're after an honest, no-fuss pub experience in the heart of Bolton, this one's worth a visit, but it might not wow you if you're seeking something a bit more polished.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The drinks are incredibly affordable – like getting a Guinness for just £3, which is a real treat these days!
  • The food is spot on, with delicious options like chips and vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, or that spicy chicken burger with waffle chips – it's proper comforting grub.
  • The staff are warm and welcoming, often going the extra mile to make you feel at home, even in tricky situations like keeping the kitchen open after a mishap.
  • It's got a lovely local atmosphere, feeling like a good old-fashioned pub that's family-friendly and perfect for a casual catch-up in Bolton town centre.
Cons
  • The website seems to have some issues, like access errors, which might make it hard to check out menus or details before heading over.
  • Operating hours aren't clearly listed anywhere, so you might end up turning up when it's not open, which could be a bit frustrating.
  • While it's charming in its traditional way, it might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or fancy – it's very much a straightforward pub vibe.

Drinks only. Very cheap price. Local atmosphere, just a good old fashioned pub with a good pint. Guinness for £3, not complaining.

Poppy, Marie and Kelly where friendly and inviting, they even kept the kitchen open specially after they had a major incident, would highly recommend a visit as you will surely return.

Great food, definitely suggested the chocolate fudge cake. Table service was fantastic and a bar staff member recalled us from last time we went. Quick service, family friendly and good seating. Had chicken tikka masala, Gammon steak with pineapple, sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake.
