About This Pub
Ah, The Shovels in Blackpool – it's one of those pubs that just feels welcoming from the moment you walk in, tucked away near the airport and not far from the South Pier. I've got to say, the food really steals the show; it's flame-grilled to perfection and served up quickly with a smile, and those offers like buy one get one free make it an absolute steal for a hearty meal. The team there are brilliant too, always polite and attentive without hovering, which makes for a relaxed atmosphere. It's brilliant for sports fans, with all the live action from Sky and TNT, so you can settle in for the Euros or rugby tours with a pint in hand. On the flip side, it does get packed, so booking ahead is a must to snag a table, and sometimes they run out of popular dishes like steaks, which might leave you settling for something else. Oh, and keep an eye on the beer – it's usually spot on, but it can be a tad flat now and then. All in all, it's a great little spot for a laid-back outing with friends or family, and I'd definitely pop back for more of that delicious fare.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is absolutely spot on – think beautifully cooked, piping hot meals that leave you wanting more, with great value deals like BOGOF that make it a bargain.
-
The staff are a real highlight; they're friendly, polite, and always on hand without being over the top, making you feel right at home.
-
It's a fantastic spot for watching live sports, with Sky Sports and TNT, plus events like the Women's Euros or the British & Irish Lions tour – perfect for catching the big games with mates.
-
Being inexpensive and family-friendly, with perks like being dog-friendly and having a car park, it's super convenient for a relaxed day out in Blackpool.
Cons
-
It can get quite busy, so you might need to book a table in advance to avoid waiting around, especially if you're popping in for a meal.
-
Occasionally, some menu items like steaks might not be available, which can be disappointing if that's what you're after.
-
There have been a few mentions of the beer not being quite right, like it being a bit flat at times, which is a shame for a pub.

Excellent food, cooked and presented beautifully and served quickly. Food was piping hot and absolutely delicious. Staff were friendly, polite and attentive without harassing customers. We will definitely be back, very soon. Thank you
Went for a meal at the shovels. First time heard good things about the place.
Lovely staff. Fairly priced. Easy access.
Firstly a few things. Turned up and all the table were reserved so if you come to eat I'd recommend reserving a table as if you come you might not get a table for a while.
Food was absolutely amazing. I had the 8oz gammon with egg chips and wine apple and peas..
Peas a tad hard but not really an issue
Mc and cheese was really small for a side for the price. £3 odd.. and the cheese sauce i think tasted like a a jar cheese sauce. (Sorry).
But other than that the food overall was good and I will most certainly be back to try other food.
First time eating here. Very happy. Good food excellent value. The BOGOF offer is amazing. Will be back
No steaks at 15.00 was looking forward to a ribeye ,ended up with a poor looking mixed grill and a very poor mixed grill. Not once did a member of staff ask if it was okay ,the beer was a little flat not the best ...
My family and friends had the most amazing day here for Christmas in the Shovels. All the staff were polite, professional and bent over backwards to make our day one to remember. Food was 10/10 and we were stuffed by the end. The cute little elf Steve looked after us from booking to leaving and everything in between. Thank you, Karen and team for a wonderful day!
