About This Pub
Ah, The Shoulder of Mutton – what a gem of a spot in Calverton, isn't it? From what I've gathered, it's got all the hallmarks of a proper English pub, with that blend of timeless charm and a bit of modern flair in the decor, making it feel just right for a relaxed catch-up with friends. The food really steals the show; folks are raving about the hearty Sunday lunches and seasonal specials that are packed with flavour and come in portions that'll satisfy even the hungriest among us. And the team there? They're an absolute delight, going the extra mile to make you feel welcome, whether you're dealing with allergies or celebrating something special. It's brilliant for all sorts of occasions too, from quiz nights to garden brunches in the warmer months, and it's even dog-friendly in the snug areas, which is a nice touch. On the flip side, though, it's only open from Wednesday onwards, so if you're thinking of a spontaneous midweek visit, you might be out of luck, and they do close for private events now and then, which could throw a spanner in the works. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good night out or a leisurely meal, as long as you time it right – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, you won't be disappointed!

-
They host regular events like quiz nights and BBQs, and the space is perfect for private dos like birthdays or even weddings, adding a real community vibe.
Cons
-
It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which can be a bit of a nuisance if you're after a midweek pint or meal.
-
Occasionally, they shut for private events, so it's worth checking ahead to avoid any disappointment on a day you'd planned to pop in.

Went here for Sunday lunch on my birthday with a group of 14, and it couldn’t have been better. The roast was exceptional: perfectly cooked, packed with flavour, and generous portions. The staff were incredibly attentive and welcoming, making us feel really special. Everyone at the table said it was one of the best roasts they’ve had, and for the quality, it was very reasonably priced. A real hidden gem - highly recommend!
Christmas Day lunch - fantastic service, great food and amazing festive atmosphere. Well done and thank you to all who made it such a great experience.
This was superb, booked online and informed of an allergy I had, they called me back to confirm it would be safe which i really appreciated. Had the Sunday lunch, HUGE portion and really reasonable, lovely atmosphere for a slow and easy Sunday dinner. Staff were lovely, perfect cosy pub, what a great way to celebrate a birthday :)
What an absolute find! Had lunch with a friend, wow! I think I have a new favourite restaurant. I had their signature lamb, I don't think I picked my knife up once. So tender, well seasoned and super tasty. Fine dining at its best, we will definitely be back 😋 highly recommended!
This pub has been completely turned around by the new owners and it is fantastic. The decor is fresh and clean, the staff welcoming and friendly, and it’s warm and generally a fabulous little pub. The food is incredible - have tried both the porchetta and the fish pie so far and both were 10/10 - and the wine menu excellent. Have been running lots of innovative and fun events in the last couple of week. Absolutely wonderful pub and wish the new owners all the best. They’ve turned the place around and deserve every success.
