About This Pub
Oh, let me tell you about The Ship Inn – it's this gem of a pub tucked away in Limekilns, right on the promenade, and it's got that perfect mix of traditional charm and a lively feel that just draws you in. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their own site, the food is an absolute winner; folks rave about the fresh ingredients and hearty dishes like fish and chips or steak pie, all served up piping hot with portions that'll leave you satisfied. The staff sound like a delight, always up for a chat and making sure everyone feels right at home, which really adds to the cosy atmosphere. And if you're out with your dog, they'll make you feel welcome in their special snug area – it's those little touches that make it stand out. On the flip side, though, it's closed Mondays and Tuesdays, so you'll need to keep that in mind for your plans, and the restaurant shuts fairly early, which might cramp your style if you're hoping for a long evening. Still, with such high ratings and a solid 4.6 average, it's clear this place knows how to deliver a great experience, and I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area for some good grub, drinks, and a bit of seaside relaxation – just pop in when it's open and you'll likely have a brilliant time!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The location is absolutely spot on, right by the shore in the picturesque village of Limekilns, perfect for a scenic pint or a meal with a view of the Firth of Forth
-
The staff are a real highlight – they're friendly, welcoming, and full of laughs, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates
-
The food is fresh and delicious, with big portions that hit the spot, whether it's their fish and chips or steak pie, and they've got some cracking local craft ales and spirits on offer
-
It's super dog-friendly, with a special snug area where you can bring your four-legged friend along for a bite, which is just brilliant for us who love a pub crawl with the pup
-
The atmosphere is cosy and lively, with outside seating for those sunny days, and it's clear from the buzz that it's a favourite spot for good times
Cons
-
It's closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, which means you'll have to plan your visits around that if you're keen for a mid-week tipple
-
The restaurant hours are a bit limited, wrapping up by 8pm most evenings, so it might not be ideal if you're after a late-night feed
-
It can get quite busy, especially since it's so popular, and you might need to book ahead or rock up early to snag a table without any hassle

Terrific wee pub rightby the shore. Staff are a great laugh, and punters a hoot as well. Great German lager on tap on my visit. Outside seating, didn't try the food but plenty folk in asking, but service started at 5pm.
Dogs very welcome.
First visit today for lunch and it won’t be our last. Sits right on the promenade looking over the water. We had a lovely walk beforehand and worked up an appetite.
I had battered fish and chip and hubby had steak pie and chips. Both meals arrived piping hot and delicious 😋 very good service.
Food was amazing and the staff very friendly. Nice cozy atmosphere you would expect from a pub/restaurant.
Amazing food, big portions & very friendly staff. We just rocked up & they made space for us even though they were fully booked. Highly recommended!
I came to this pub on route to the airport after a wedding with my friends today. This pub is amazing. The staff were absolutely lovely as well. The food came piping hot, the batter was absolutely perfect on the fish and chips. I wish I could go here regularly. Best pub food I've ever had hands down!
Do not hesitate in coming here. Can't wait to visit Scotland again so I can return!
