About This Pub

Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper gem in Wiltshire, doesn't it? Tucked away in the centre of historic Corsham, this place has bags of character from its refurbished bars with those inviting wood-burning stoves, perfect for shaking off the winter chill or enjoying a summer pint in the secret garden. The reviews I've seen are mostly glowing, with folks raving about the friendly staff who go the extra mile, the solid range of real ales that hit the spot, and even the B&B rooms that sound like a comfy option if you're staying over. It's got that affordable, community feel, and being near attractions like Bath and Stonehenge makes it a handy stop-off. On the flip side, though, the opening times look a tad muddled, and with not many recent reviews, it might be having a quieter spell these days – still, if you're up for a bit of history and a good chat, I'd say it's well worth popping in for a pint and seeing for yourself. All in all, it's a solid choice for us pub lovers looking for that genuine, welcoming atmosphere without any fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The historic charm of the place is absolutely lovely; it's got that warm, traditional feel with wooden floors and wood-burning stoves that make you feel right at home, especially on a chilly evening.
  • They've got a cracking selection of Wadsworth real ales, guest ales, lagers, and ciders – perfect for a proper pint after a day out exploring the Cotswolds or nearby spots like Bath.
  • The staff are so welcoming and attentive; from what I've heard in the reviews, they're always up for a chat and make you feel like a regular from the get-go.
  • It's got brilliant extras like comfy B&B rooms, a function room for gatherings, and even a secret garden out the back – ideal for a sunny afternoon.
  • Prices are spot on for a good night out; it's inexpensive, so you can enjoy without breaking the bank, and there's a large car park which is a real bonus in a busy town like Corsham.
Cons
  • The opening hours seem a bit inconsistent or possibly outdated based on what's listed, which might catch you out if you're planning a visit – always best to double-check.
  • There haven't been many recent reviews, so it might not be as buzzing as it once was, which could mean it's quieter than you'd expect on a typical evening.
  • One chap mentioned a limited choice of ales on his visit, so if you're after a wide variety every time, it might not always hit the mark depending on the day.

I once lived, and worked, at the Royal Oak. Fifty-two yrs ago! Made a few trips back...but, it's been 35yrs since I was here. Visited with friends from that time. Thank you, all, for your time, and remembering. I will add this May and June to special times. Happy to see Lynne, Taffy, and Pete...

Had a wonderful afternoon in the pubs Function Room and enclosed garden. We met up witha large group of family on Saturday 11th May. Staff were very attentive and helpful throughout the afternoon. Felt very welcomed. Thought I had left my cardigan in function room and went back later that day. There was a young dark haired woman in downstairs room I think her name was Anna ? She was extreemly helpful and searched everywhere for the cardigan. Nothing was a bother for her. I kept apologising for taking up her time. Unfortunatly it wasn't there but I later found it in a bag at my brothers house. I don't know this young woman but she is an asset to your team. Sorry I can't remember her name properly. Please pass on my thanks. Shirley Sheppard Bude Cornwall.

On the Cask Marque AleTrail. Limited choice on this visit, but in acceptable condition nonetheless. Affable bar staff and plenty of history in the building, for whom these things matter. Worth more than one visit.
