About This Pub
So, I was having a chat with a few mates about hidden gems in Leicestershire, and The Royal Oak really stood out as one of those proper village pubs that hits the spot. It's got this warm, inviting feel with its nicely done-up interior – you know, that classic old building charm without it feeling stuffy. The food's a real winner; their Sunday roasts are bang on, using meat from award-winning butchers, and things like that scotch egg have folks raving about how it's the best they've tried. Plus, with deals like lunch for less, it's spot-on for your wallet, and they've got a good range of beers to wash it all down. The staff are just lovely, always ready with a smile and happy to sort out any dietary needs, which is great if you're after something a bit different. On the downside, though, service can be a bit on the slow side sometimes, even if the place isn't packed, which might put a dampener on things if you're in a rush. And watch out for those extra charges on a few menu items – it's not a deal-breaker, but it might catch you off guard. All in all, it's a solid spot for a relaxed get-together, especially if you're popping in with the dog after a walk, and I'd say it's worth a visit for the grub alone, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Four of us went for Sunday lunch. The pub is nicely decorated and welcoming. The service was very slow, however, and it wasn't very busy so that was quite surprising. The food was tasty enough, but quite a few staples had supplements (£2 extra for scotch egg starter, £4 extra for beef main course, £5 extra if you want cauliflower cheese or pork crackling - all significant uplifts on the advertised "£21 for two courses"), which was a bit misleading we felt.
Lovely local village pub. Old building but very nicely decorated. We had Sunday lunch with friends and really enjoyed it. The food was good quality with a good choice, nicely presented and very tasty. Really good value for money (£21 for two courses). However, there are a number of dishes with supplements (£4 if you want the roast beef) and "extras" such as a bowl of cauliflower cheese were £5.
Recommend that you book as it gets busy.
Service was pleasant but slow.
Drinks were quite expensive.
Visited on a road trip around Leicestershire. The food was splendid and tables were nicely decorated. Really friendly and helpful staff too. That scotch egg was easily the best one's had ever.
Staying in our motorhome at Eye Kettleby Lakes l.5 miles from the pub. Cycled there with our two dogs in trailer. Well worth visit.
Had the lunch time menu- 2 courses £15. Barry and I both had the fish and chips with cheesecake for pudding. All delicious and beautifully presented. Will definitely return.
Very warm and welcoming staff, lovely menus, great food, and a beautiful pub in a beautiful village. And all at very reasonable prices. Oh, and good beers too.
