About This Pub

Ah, The Royal Oak – it's one of those classic spots that just feels like a proper English pub, tucked away in Catshill. From what I've gathered, the team there really know how to make you feel at ease; they're so accommodating and chatty, it's like chatting with friends over a pint. The food sounds fantastic when it's on offer – think hearty home-cooked dishes and those tempting specials that folks rave about, making it a brilliant choice for a casual lunch or evening out. The atmosphere is just right, too, with that warm, homely feel that's ideal for meeting up with mates or enjoying a family dinner. But, fair's fair, I've heard the kitchen's been out of action for a while, which is a bit of a letdown if you're going for the grub. Still, with its solid reputation and friendly service, it's worth keeping an eye on for when things pick up again – overall, it's a gem if you're in the area, as long as you go in with realistic expectations.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – always friendly and welcoming, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • The food is spot on, with delicious home-cooked meals and some cracking specials that are worth snapping up quickly.
  • It's got a really warm and cosy atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed get-together or a family meal without any fuss.
  • They offer all-day dining, which is handy if you're popping in at any time for a bite.
Cons
  • The kitchen's been closed for a bit, which means you might not get to try the food right now – a real shame given the rave reviews.
  • There's some uncertainty about when things will be back to normal, so it could be hit or miss if you're after a full pub experience.

Unfortunately the kitchen has been closed for a while and there’s no sign of the chef coming back 🤣🤣🤣

Lovely welcome, all staff extremely friendly.. Jane the manager and Matthew (AKA Richard) very accommodating and friendly too. Food was excellent, both main meal and desserts. A very warm vibe and excellent place for a meet up 😊

We were travelling up to Birmingham to see Peter Kay live and stopped off at this lovely pub prior to the show. Matthew and the team were really inviting, friendly and patient with us especially when it came to asking questions around the menu. I had the Cajun chicken burger and chips which was really tasty and not too HOT, the chef even fried the onions for me 😃👍🏻. I had a nice pint of Thatchers Gold with my dinner which was delicious, I recon they had just put a new barrel on 🤣. There was no room for desert as the portions was huge! Will defiantly pop in again when in the area, THANKS MATTHEW 🙏

Great place for a family meal. We always have a good time when visiting The Royal oak. The menu and the staff are great. There are special offers for main meals and desserts which usually run out very quickly as they are fantastic. Worth a try if you are in the area.
