About This Pub

Ah, The Royal Exchange – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Walsall, with a solid 4.6 rating from folks who've popped in. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's brilliant for a relaxed outing; the beer selection is top-notch, and that Holden's Golden Glow comes highly recommended – it's clear they take pride in keeping it just right. The food doesn't disappoint either; imagine tucking into a massive mixed grill or a proper beef dinner with generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. And if you're with your four-legged mate, it's a winner with outdoor areas and even a doggy bowl setup. The staff sound like a friendly bunch, always up for a chat, which adds to that welcoming feel. On the flip side, it can be pretty quiet sometimes, so if you're after a buzzing night out, it might not hit the mark – one reviewer mentioned it lacked atmosphere on their visits. There was a minor grumble about some veg not being quite right, but honestly, that's a small thing in an otherwise positive picture. All in all, it's a great choice for a casual catch-up over a drink and a meal, especially on a sunny day outside, but keep in mind it might be more your speed for a mellow vibe rather than a wild one.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's super dog-friendly with outdoor seating areas and even a tap with a bowl for your furry friends, making it a great spot if you're out with the dog.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of beers and ciders, like the Holden's Golden Glow, which is well-kept and shows the folks running the place know their stuff.
  • The food is spot on – generous portions, tasty options like mixed grills and beef dinners, and it's all at a reasonable price, such as £5.35 for a beer and scratchings.
  • The staff are really welcoming and friendly, creating a lovely atmosphere that's perfect for a relaxed get-together.
Cons
  • It can be quite quiet on visits, which might not suit those after a lively vibe, so it feels a bit lacking in buzz at times.
  • There are occasional niggles with the food, like the peas being a tad hard, though overall it's still pretty good.
  • With no website or online presence, it's a bit tricky to check out the latest details before heading over.

A dog friendly pub with two outdoor seating areas. On both visits, i had a Holden's Golden Glow. Very nice beer that shows that the management know how to look after their beer. Golden Glow and scratchings for £5.35. Outside tap with a bowl for dogs. Very quiet on my two visits, so not really an atmosphere. Will return.

Went here on a Saturday night a couple of weeks ago. We had 2 mixed grills, one chicken curry and a scampi and chips Mixed grills were definitely worth the money and the portion sizes were nice and a decent amount of meat. Peas were a bit hard but other than that food was great. They have some of the best chips I have ever had as they are more like homemade ones you would fry, not greasy. We will be going back on Friday as can't get those chips out of my head! (Pregnant so cravings are REAL)
