Every now and then when you enter a pub and see the beers and decor you go Wow - this is one of those places and should not be missed. The service from the knowledgeable barman was second to none. It was a real pleasure to drink here.

Best pub in York! I'm a student and come here all the time but it is by no means a student bar, it really suits everyone. The beer selection is huge, the stouts in particular are some of the best I have ever had. Atmosphere is perfect, there is always a great buzz and it's never too overwhelming. The interior is decorated so we'll, it's cool but never bordering on pretentious. The food is delicious and generously portioned, and fits the rest of the pub so we'll. The bar snacks are just as good and shows how much care goes into the place. Staff are so sound and friendly, always go out of there way to make you feel welcome and seem really happy to work there. Also the price is amazing for York, especially when you factor in how good the drinks are. I don't have a single bad thing to say about this place, couldn't wish for a better local!

The Rook & Gaskill is a modern stylish pub. There is a wide range of beers, including cask conditioned hand-pulled real ales. There is a large range of craft beers and lagers. We ordered some food and the service was quick and friendly. There are two rooms and an outside seating area. The pub is featured in the camra good beer guide. A deservedly very popular pub. Highly recommended.

Easily one of the best pubs in York. Easily! A great, large selection of craft ales, cask, on tap and cans. Lovely snacks and food. You could walk past it without knowing you have but a lovely pub inside and a nice outdoor seating you can smoke in.
