About This Pub

Ah, The Roadhouse Hotel – it's one of those places that feels like a proper no-nonsense spot down on London Road in Carlisle, where you can pop in for a pint or grab a room if you're passing through. I have to say, it's spot on if you're after something cheap and cheerful; the prices are a real winner, and the staff are dead welcoming, which always makes me smile. You'll find the beds are comfy enough and the TV works fine, so it's not all bad for a quick overnight. But, and it's a big but, some rooms are a tad run-down with mouldy bathrooms and worn-out furniture that could do with a spruce-up – it's like they've not kept up with the maintenance lately. Then there's the noise from the pub and that busy road, which might keep you awake if you're a light sleeper. Overall, it'd suit you if you're not fussed about luxuries and just need a base, but if you're after something a bit more polished, you might want to look elsewhere. Still, it's got that honest, down-to-earth charm that makes it worth considering for a budget night out or away.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • It's incredibly affordable, making it a top pick if you're on a tight budget and just need a place to crash.
  • The staff offer a warm and friendly welcome, which really helps set a welcoming tone when you arrive.
  • Some of the basics hold up well, like comfortable beds and a working TV, so you get what you need for a simple stay.
Cons
  • Rooms can feel a bit dingy and worn out, with issues like mould in the bathroom and tired furniture that might put you off.
  • Noise from the pub downstairs and the busy road outside can make it hard to get a good night's sleep.
  • Facilities are pretty basic, with sparse WiFi, limited toilet paper, and areas that could do with a deeper clean, like grubby carpets or showers.

Cheap place to stay , very tired in places yet warmly welcome by owner. Away from town centre on busy main road with some takeaways near by. It suited our needs yet won’t be paying a return visit.

You get exactly what you paid for. Dingy room, mouldy bathroom. Not a single intact strip of caulk. Worn furniture. Noise from the pub downstairs. Glad we brought our own pillows because the hotel pillows were flatter than a pancake. We did inspect the bed for bedbugs and didnt find any, so that's good The rating is relative to the pricing. We knew what we were getting into in advance, we read the reviews and decided we were happy to save some money.

Fair experience for the price. After seeing a lot of shocking reviews on here, I was a little worried about staying here. Ultimately, the room did smell a touch of damp and was very basic - but what do you expect for the price tag (£45 per night for a twin room). Bedsheets were clean, the mattress looked fairly new, and check-in and out were easy. I imagine it can get a touch rowdy at times with the bar, but it was deserted the two nights we stayed (Friday and Saturday) and it was only a couple of other guests a touch drunk in our corridor that made a bit of noise at one point. Overall, I think it's fair enough to give 4 stars since you can't really expect more for the modest price tag.

Wifi is sparse. Rooms very basic. One device per room can "connect" at 8mps. Rooms are "clean" as in vacuumed, however carpets could do with a clean. Bed was comfortable. Tv works. Toilet has limited toilet paper so if 2 of you need to crap or on your period, you may be in trouble. Toilet is hard to flush completely. Doors are unlocked with key and have a door chain for added security. Heaters work in our room. Complimentary tea/coffee provided in room with kettle. However tea tastes stale or old, I'm not sure which - definitely odd. No soap near hand basin or shampoo in shower. Only soap dispenser in shower. Hanging rack in room a spacesaver that works. No breakfast on offer. Pub part had free pool. We were given a room on the ground floor as we have large suitcases so we didn't have to lug them upstairs.
