About This Pub

Ah, The Cranemakers – what a lovely little spot in Carlisle for a pint and a bite. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that classic pub charm that just draws you in; the drinks are top-notch, and the food sounds like a real treat, leaving you with that satisfied glow. The staff and regulars really go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome, which is brilliant if you're popping in for a casual afternoon or to catch a game – it's got that community spirit that's hard to beat. On the flip side, though, it's not all smooth sailing; some folks have mentioned the TVs blaring and the music cranked up, which can turn a relaxed visit into something a bit overwhelming, especially if you're after a quiet natter. And while it's great that it's dog-friendly, there've been a few tales of barking dogs off the lead, which might not sit well if you're not in the mood for that. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time with mates, as long as you go in with your eyes open to the lively side of things – I'd say give it a try and see if it clicks for you!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pints and food are spot on – absolutely delicious and hit the spot every time.
  • It's got a warm, welcoming atmosphere with friendly staff and locals who make you feel right at home.
  • A proper traditional pub vibe, perfect for a casual catch-up or enjoying events like football matches.
Cons
  • The TV screens and music can get too loud, which might disrupt the cosy feel and make it hard to chat.
  • There have been issues with dogs not being well-managed, even though it's meant to be dog-friendly, which could put some folks off.

Lovely traditional pub, but spoiled by TV screens. I went in and chose a table before buying my reasonably priced drink, then sat down only for the TV volume to increase. So I moved to a quieter area and realised that not only could I hear the TV but music too!

Entered this pub with my partner and our two dogs as it is advertised as dog friendly. When we entered there was a dog off leash barking at us. On the wall there was doggie rules staying no barking allowed. We were told because that dog was uncomfortable (again off leash and barking at us) we had to leave. Our dogs did not bark once. They refused us service. Never had such a bad experience.
