About This Pub
Ah, The Rising Sun – it's one of those classic London pubs that just wraps you up in its charm from the moment you step inside. Tucked away on Eltham High Street, this place has been around since the early 1900s, and you can really feel that history in the ornate mouldings and arched windows; it's like stepping into a cosy time capsule. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the staff are brilliant – always on point and making everyone feel looked after, whether you're popping in for a quick pint or a full meal. The food's a real highlight too; think hearty burgers and fresh seasonal twists that pair perfectly with a frosty pint, and don't miss those lunch deals if you're out and about midweek. It's spot on for families or if you've got your dog in tow, with WiFi and all the little touches that make it easy to settle in. On the flip side, it's not the place for a wild night out – it can be a bit more subdued, especially later in the evening, and if you're after something more cutting-edge in terms of drinks or dishes, you might find it a touch straightforward. Overall, though, it's a solid choice for a relaxed get-together; I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as it's got that genuine pub spirit that makes you want to linger a while.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The atmosphere is wonderfully cosy and welcoming, with its historic decor and traditional vibes that make you feel right at home.
-
The staff are absolute gems – friendly, attentive, and always ready with a smile, just like Sebastian who got rave reviews for his top-notch service.
-
The food is spot on, offering delicious classics like burgers, fish and chips, and seasonal specials that hit the spot, especially with those unbeatable lunch deals.
-
It's super family-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring the whole gang, including your furry mate, for a relaxed outing.
-
They've got great deals and events, like the summer drinks and Pride celebrations, which add a fun twist to your visit.
Cons
-
It might feel a bit quiet or traditional if you're after a more buzzing, modern spot with the latest trends in cocktails or music.
-
Serving hours wrap up a tad early on Sundays, so if you're planning a late-night catch-up, you might need to wrap things up sooner than expected.
-
While the food's lovely, it sticks to classic pub fare, so if you're craving something a bit more adventurous or exotic, you might have to look elsewhere.

We were a group of 13 of us coming in for lunch on the Easter Monday. The staff was so attentive and really accommodated us. The pub itself felt cosy and warm and loved the circular bar. We all had a mix of fish and chips, burger, scampi, roast and it was delicious. Highly recommend. Great service and a lovely place. Will definitely return again.
Sebastian the waiter was so professional and friendly. Really made my experience so pleasant.
What a friendly, happy young man. An absolute credit to the company. The food was delicious and served promptly, and drinks were flowing! Couldn’t recommend more! Lovely atmosphere in this pub x
Very welcoming and friendly pub. Staff were lovely, and they were very thoughtful offering flowers and prosecco on Mothers' Day. Food was nice and we were able to relax and chat at our table with drinks. We would definitely come back.
I haven't visited this pub for years until recently. It's pretty historic. The decor was lovely - plenty of coloured glass and Tiffany-style lamps.
The service was great. The toilets were clean.
