About This Pub

Ah, The Rising Sun – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local gem in Stockport, you know? From what I've gathered from the reviews and details, it's got this warm, welcoming vibe that's perfect for popping in after a long day or gathering with mates for a pint. The big screens showing Sky and BT Sports make it a go-to for footie fans, especially during Man United or Man City games, and the live music and karaoke add a fun, lively touch that keeps things entertaining. Plus, with a spacious beer garden and being family and dog-friendly, it's versatile for all sorts of visits. On the flip side, it's a bit of a letdown that they don't do hot food, so if you're peckish for more than crisps, you might need to plan ahead. Overall, with a solid 4.2 rating from folks who've been there, it's clear this place does community pubs right – affordable drinks, a clean and buzzing atmosphere, and a team that's genuinely accommodating. If you're in the area, I'd say give it a go; it's got that homely feel that makes you want to come back, even with its minor shortcomings.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is always buzzing and welcoming, making it a fantastic spot to unwind with friends or catch up on live sports like Man United or Man City games on those big HD screens.
  • It's got a spacious layout both inside and out, with a lovely beer garden that's perfect for a sunny day and watching the world go by.
  • Live entertainment is a real highlight – think solo singers, bands, and karaoke nights that keep things lively every weekend.
  • The team, led by Julie, goes out of their way to make everyone feel at home, finding seats during busy events and keeping the place spotlessly clean, right down to the toilets.
  • Drinks are reasonably priced, including alcohol-free options, and it's family-friendly and dog-friendly, so you can bring the little ones or your furry mate along.
Cons
  • It doesn't serve hot food, which is a bit of a shame if you're after a proper meal with your pint – you'll have to pop elsewhere for that.
  • The pub can get quite packed during big events or matches, which might make it tricky to find a spot if you haven't planned ahead.
  • Operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from the details, but generally, it wraps up earlier in the evenings, so it's not ideal for late-night outings.

This is one of the best pubs in the area. I have been going here on and off since way before it was renovated last time and Julie and her team work hard to make this a fun and welcoming place to go. There is no food but the cost of a pint is reasonable, has live music every weekend, has a small enclosed outdoor area and you are not constantly looking over your shoulder. How often do you hear the words “We have had to shut the front door as we are full” in pubs any more! Keep up the good work Julie.

Couldn't ask for a better local pub. Julie is so accomodating. She finds you seats when the pub has football, live music and other entertainment on. The atmosphere is always buzzing and the pub is always very clean. Toilets included. A great happy pub to visit. Thanks Julie and your team. All the staff are polite and very friendly.

Nice pub with plenty of space. I only scored 4 stars because they don't serve hot food and drinks.

I really liked the smoking area here — once it was opened for me — and out of all the pubs I visited in Hazel Grove that day (too many) it felt like the only one I could actually relax in… Also the alcohol free drinks are reasonably priced with Heineken 0.0 being £3.30

Comfortable, large pub at the south end of Hazel Grove. Recently refurbished to good effect. Pleasant walled garden to the front where you can see the busy roads in action. Internally, it consists of a pool room to the left, bar and associated high seating to centre, then a lounge type area to the right. There is a small stage, and plenty of TV sport. Pizzas served all day. Three cask ales.
