About This Pub

Ah, The Flying Coach – what a lovely find in the heart of Hazel Grove! It's one of those pubs that really captures the spirit of a traditional local, with its warm, inviting atmosphere and a cracking selection of real ales that'd make any beer aficionado smile. I mean, who could resist tucking into some handmade sourdough pizzas in the beer garden on a sunny day, or enjoying the odd quiz night with friends? The staff are proper friendly and attentive, and it's brilliant that it's so dog-friendly and family-oriented, with easy access and parking to boot. But, let's be honest, it does have its downsides – sometimes when you wander in, it feels like the room goes quiet, which can make you feel a tad self-conscious, and the bar gets crowded quickly, so you might have to queue a bit for your pint. Still, once you're settled in, it's all about the good vibes and that historic charm, like the fireplace and the nods to its coaching inn roots. All in all, it's a solid choice for a relaxed evening out, and I'd say it's worth a visit if you're in the area – just go with the flow and you'll have a whale of a time!

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is warm and inviting, making you feel right at home as soon as you step in.
  • Fantastic selection of real ales and beers on tap, like Old Tom and Trooper – perfect for any beer enthusiast.
  • Tasty food options, including handmade sourdough pizzas, pork pies, scotch eggs, and fish 'n' chips on Fridays.
  • Dog-friendly vibe with their own pub dog, Douglas, adding a fun touch for pet lovers.
  • Spacious beer garden with heaters for those unpredictable British weather days.
  • Family-friendly and wheelchair accessible, with free parking and even EV charging nearby.
  • Regular live entertainment and upcoming quizzes, plus a games room with chess and dominoes for a bit of fun.
Cons
  • It can feel a bit unwelcoming at first, as conversations sometimes stop when you walk in, like you're interrupting the local crowd.
  • The bar area is on the small side, which means getting served can be a bit of a faff when it's busy.

The atmosphere is warm and always inviting. Gent on the bar is friendly and attentive and the selection of drinks is spot on and the food delicious — pork pies / scotch eggs on the bar and fish ‘n chips Fridays! — everything you want in a great pub.

Every single time you walk in the front door, its like the conversations stop - and everyone at the bar watches you walk in. Never not been in, and had this experience. With the amount of people at the bar, its not a large bar - so getting served can be annoying. Aside from that - quite good seating inside and outside with large and small rooms inside - and a large beer garden outside. Wing Wednesday - not exactly the best - just get the plain wings, with a small amount of sauce on the side.

Joined my friend for quiz night, got there early and ordered the 25p wings, rosemary and garlic was the special. Really nice and hot. Ordered a Pepsi and my husband had a pint of unicorn. Overall was felt very welcomed and was a great evening with the quiz guy. Had an amazing night.

This pub is definitely the pride of Hazel Grove. Eddie is definitely one of the best landlords you’ll ever have the pleasure of meeting. The food is great, the atmosphere welcoming, clientele are friendly. Looking forward to enjoying the beer garden soon too. Live music, dog friendly too. Wednesday is Wing Wednesday for me. 25pence a wing. Quiz on Wing weds is a must. Forgot to mention the chef is a beast cook and the bar staff are friendly, knowledgeable and smiling.
