About This Pub

You know, chatting about The Refinery feels like sharing tips over a pint – it's got that easy-going charm in West Bridgford that's perfect for everything from a hearty breakfast to tapas nights. The staff really stand out; they're so approachable and make sure you're looked after without hovering, which is just what you want for a relaxed evening. Plus, those deals like the Two For £35 are an absolute bargain for tucking into mains and wine, and the special events, like bottomless brunch on Saturdays, bring a bit of excitement to the table. On the downside, it's not all smooth sailing – a couple of visits have had food arriving a bit late or not as warm as it'd be nice, and some have said the overall quality has slipped a little over time, which is a pity for a place with such potential. Still, with its clean, modern feel and a solid 4.4 rating from the crowd, I'd say it's worth a try if you're after good value and a friendly spot, just maybe plan for a leisurely visit rather than something rushed.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are absolutely brilliant – friendly, attentive, and make you feel welcome right from the off.
  • They've got some cracking deals like the Two For £35, which is spot on for sharing a meal and a bottle of wine with mates.
  • The atmosphere is clean, modern, and relaxed, making it a great spot for a casual catch-up or family breakfast.
  • Special events like bottomless brunch and themed evenings add a fun vibe, keeping things lively and worth returning for.
Cons
  • Service can be a bit slow at times, so if you're popping in for a quick bite, it might leave you waiting longer than expected.
  • Some dishes don't always arrive piping hot, like veggies or sides, which can take the edge off an otherwise nice meal.
  • A few folks have noticed the food quality isn't quite what it used to be, with things like sauces feeling a tad average now.

Amazing breakfast with the family. Great food and can highly recommend the Eggs Refinery - poached eggs & steak. Staff are really friendly and the place is so clean and modern. We will definitely be coming back for breakfast and other meals. Thank you

Food was quite slow arriving but it didn't matter to us, or was quiet and we were able to have a catch up. The waitress was efficient and friendly. Food, it was very nice however Carrots and Mushy peas not very warm but everything else nice. Large quantities. My chips with my fish and chips were shared with two others. Atmosphere: it was quiet, but it was early. I bet it would be more atmospheric when full, but we liked it quiet. Toilet: must be the smallest ever. Would i go again? Maybe/ maybe not. £47 for fish and chips, lamb shank and veg, 1 alcoholic cocktail. 1 non alcoholic cocktail. Tad on the expensive side to us.

I rarely leave bad reviews but here goes... I'll start by saying the waiting staff who have been here a long time are great. I've been coming since you opened. The food has got pretty terrible though over the last few years. It used to be excellent but now it's below average at best. I remember coming for burgers 3-5 years ago and they were amazing. When compared to the other places we have in WB (Rawsha...Cuzina...soon to be Rudy's...) there is absolutely no reason to choose Refinery any more. Sorry - but you need a better chef. Changing the menu constantly doesn't help if nothing is cooked well. The younger waiting staff aren't great and need more training. You are charging £12 for cocktails. This isn't a cheap bar/restaurant. They aren't particularly attentive and they are also terrible at making cocktails compared to the more experienced staff members. I don't want to have to worry about who is going to make my drink when I'm paying £12 for it. I've been a couple of times when young girls have made the drink and honestly, they've been terrible. The food is the real issue though. It's a real shame that this is happening because I (and other people I know) used to come frequently - but now we won't. If it went back to how it was I'd be there all the time. Hopefully the owner reads this and takes note as it would be such a shame if it continues to go down hill...

Very nice attentive staff. The food was just ok though. We stopped for a beer and a snack and had potato bravos and chicken tacos. I don't believe the potatoes were freshly made as they were only a little warm and the sauce was average. The tacos had plenty of chicken filling, but the salsa was not great and a lot of water came out of the tacos when we ate it. Disappointing food but the Beaverton beer selection was nice. Not sure I will rush back.
