About This Pub

Oh, let me tell you about Gilt in West Bridgford – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper local gem, tucked away on Central Avenue. I've heard from folks who've been going there for years that it's all about that friendly, down-to-earth service; the team really goes out of their way to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a hearty breakfast at 8am or enjoying a cocktail later in the day. The food is another highlight – think freshly made dishes that hit the spot, from full English breakfasts to evening meals that leave you satisfied. And don't get me started on the drinks; they've got a cracking range of wines, beers, and even speciality coffees that make it easy to settle in for a chat. It's also brilliant for events, with that upstairs lounge perfect for parties or meetings, and the overall atmosphere is just buzzing without being overwhelming. But, to keep it real, it's not all perfect – I've seen a few mentions of service not quite hitting the mark, like a waiter being a bit short when something went wrong with an order, or the food not always looking as polished as it could. Plus, if you're with little ones and a buggy, it might be tricky during peak times, as they ask you to fold it up for safety. All in all, it's a solid choice for a good time out, as long as you go in with realistic expectations and appreciate the charm of a busy local spot.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The service is genuinely friendly and attentive, making you feel right at home from the moment you walk in.
  • The food is spot on – freshly prepared, delicious breakfasts and a full menu that's perfect for a casual meal or something more special.
  • They've got a great selection of drinks, from craft beers and cocktails to speciality coffees and teas, which really adds to the vibe.
  • It's a versatile spot, ideal for everything from a quick breakfast to hiring the upstairs lounge for events or parties.
  • The atmosphere is welcoming and lively, especially in the heart of West Bridgford, and it's been a reliable local favourite since 2009.
Cons
  • There can be occasional service hiccups, like a staff member being a bit abrupt, which might put a dampener on your visit.
  • Food preparation isn't always flawless – for instance, you might end up with a hard-boiled egg when you asked for poached.
  • Presentation of the dishes can fall short of expectations, even if the taste is generally good.
  • During busy periods, they might struggle with space for prams or buggies, which could be a hassle for families.
  • It can get quite packed, so you might not always get the spot you want or the quick service you'd hope for.

Me and my colleagues regularly pop down for breakfast. The food is delicious, always freshly prepared and nicely presented.

Absolutely fabulous food and service for our wedding 1 March. From the first contact, everyone at Gilt was attentive, helpful and supported our (not insignificant) requests. The food was gorgeous, with hardly anything left uneaten. Our guests were very impressed as were we. Cannot thank the team enough or recommend them highly enough! Everyone at Gilt made our special day exceptional!

Lovely team! The manager Willow and the waitress Lucy couldn’t have made the evening better if they tried. Polite, caring and friendly people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and provide a fast quality service. :) Exactly what a company should value in their workforce

Sadly, disappointed today after being a regular Saturday customer especially after recent operations. Ordered a full English breakfast with a poached egg that sadly was hard boiled. Mentioned it to a male waiter who abruptly replied (quite rude) I’ll feed it back to the chef but when they are left under the lights for a while they do go hard and walked off. I would have said sorry sir I will ask the chef to make you a fresh one it will take this amount of minutes - nothing. The female waitresses are absolutely impeccable so kind and caring. Not sure if I heard correctly leaving and the waitress feeding back my comments that the slim male waiter with arm tattoos was rude I’m sure he said has he paid the bill. I will always pay a food bill in restaurants it’s a struggle daily for you so I wasn’t complaining for a cheap fast one breakfast that’s not my style. I also left a tip for the female waitresses who are wonderful.

Very busy day when we visited . Atmosphere was great and people were so nice . I rated 4 star for food just because the presentation wasn’t that perfect than I expected . I could have done better .
