About This Pub

Ah, the Red Lion – it's one of those pubs that feels like a reliable old friend, you know? From what I've gathered chatting about it, the food really steals the show; whether it's the Indian menu or hearty pub grub, people are raving about how tasty and well-prepared everything is. I love that it's got that classic pub atmosphere where you can just relax with a group of pals over a meal. The service tends to be pretty good too, with staff who seem genuinely attentive, though there have been a couple of grumbles about it not being quite up to scratch on busier days. On the downside, the drinks are a bit on the expensive side, which could put a damper on things if you're out for a budget night. And let's not forget about the parking – it's a squeeze, so you might want to plan ahead if you're coming by car. Overall, it's a solid choice for a get-together, with that 4.0 rating speaking volumes about the good times had here, but it's worth keeping those little niggles in mind to set your expectations right.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is absolutely top-notch – I've heard rave reviews about the Indian dishes and classics like chicken curry, which are packed with flavour and really hit the spot.
  • Service is generally spot on; the staff come across as friendly and efficient, making for a pleasant visit whether you're popping in for drinks or a full meal.
  • It's in a great location on Castle Street in Luton, easy to get to and perfect for meeting up with mates without any hassle.
Cons
  • Drinks can be a tad pricey, which might make you think twice if you're planning a long session.
  • Parking is pretty tight, so if you're driving, you might end up circling around a bit, which isn't ideal.
  • Service isn't always perfect – a few folks have mentioned it could be a bit hit or miss, especially if things get busy.

Okay where to start fathers day made booking for this place now I grew up in toddington went to Luton University my parents still live in toddington. Since 1999 when it was called brookes I came here so nice brilliant place. I left got married in 2012 my last time I came here is 2009 i live in Hertfordshire. Now since yesterday I rang as I made booking but I remembered about the car park so I wanted to ask if the car park is full where else can I park. 3 different people one being slok can't spell his name said there is metro bank parking okay so is it free on Sunday he didn't know. The girl I spoke to yesterday correctly said she is new to the area doesn't know. However the owners are the ones with restaurants club 2000 and arch in wembley with both I been to. The fact no one has clue about parking or parking amenities is so bad not to say bad for customers if you are trying to attract customers its logic that anyone would ask about all facilities for the restaurant what if I bought my grandmother who can walk but not much how can accommodate to that. Now main BIG THING BEING INDIAN GUJARATI YOU ARE SERVING BEEF IS BEYOND A JOKE COMPLETELY AS IT GOES AGAINST FAITH RELIGION CULTURE AND SPIRTUAL VALUES SO I RANG THEM AGAIN SAID NO TO CANCEL COS NO ONE HAS IDEA ABOUT PARKING SHE THEN SAID "HOW WOULD WE KNOW ABOUT OTHER PARKING" HOW IN GODS EARTH U WILL ATTRACT CUSTOMERS IF YOUR CAR PARK IS FULL MY GOSH NO PLEASE GIYS DO NOT COME EVEN ARCH WAS FIRST TIME OVER PRICED THIS PLACE AS WELL NO WONDER HARDLY FULL UP WOW

Nipped in a couple times now just for drinks and food with friends. The service was great, the food fantastic too! It's not going to be the cheapest, but when the latter two things are great it's hard to complain. The chicken curry was sublime. Compliments to the chef.

We meet up with friends at Red Lion pub restaurant every other month, the food is great, beer is a bit on the pricy side, but I dont mind that when the place is good. Its in a good location, my only criticism is Saturday we were there for a few hours, we were going to get another drink when a female staff came and put a reserved sign on the table, she never said anything to us, we then felt that we had to leave as we didn't know what time the table was needed for. We hadn't planned on leaving then until the reserved sign was put on the table.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Red Lion in Luton, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The food was absolutely outstanding—each dish was bursting with flavor and expertly prepared. Whether you're craving classic pub fare or something a little more adventurous, the menu offers something for everyone, and the quality is top-notch. The service was impeccable. The staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, with a level of friendliness and attentiveness that truly made us feel like part of the family. It's rare to experience such genuine hospitality, and it really set the tone for a wonderful evening. The events at The Red Lion are always something special. Whether it’s a live music night or one of their themed events, there’s always something fun going on. The music, in particular, was fantastic—great local bands creating a lively atmosphere without being too overpowering, which allowed for the perfect mix of energy and comfort. What really stood out, though, was the sense of community. It’s clear that The Red Lion is more than just a pub; it’s a place where people come together to enjoy great food, great music, and great company. The staff truly makes you feel like family, and I can’t wait to return for another unforgettable night. Highly recommended!

We went for food in a group of 10 people. We didn't stay in the hotel. We ordered food from the Indian menu and it was very good. On par with the places in north London. Drinks were good as well. Service was good, but could be better, nothing to ruin the evening. Parking was tight, there are only very limited spots in their car park, but there is plenty around the area, which means you might have to walk and use a pay and display car park.
