About This Pub

Ah, The Engine – it's one of those hidden gems in Luton that I've heard mates rave about for its cosy, modern setup where you can kick back with some shisha and a hearty meal. From what folks are saying, the food really steals the show; think juicy halal burgers and generous platters that hit the spot every time, paired with a lively atmosphere that's just right for catching up with friends or even bringing the family along. The staff sound like absolute stars, always attentive and making sure everything runs smoothly, which adds to that feel-good factor. On the flip side, it's not all perfect – some have mentioned the shisha flavours falling a bit flat lately, which is a shame when you're there for that specific experience. Plus, if you're with a big group, you might end up feeling a tad squished if seating gets tight, and there could be moments where your requests aren't met straight away. Overall, it's a solid choice for a relaxed night out, especially if you're after good value and a welcoming buzz, but I'd say it's worth going in with realistic expectations to enjoy the highs and navigate the lows.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
  • The food is absolutely delicious, with generous portions of halal options like burgers, lamb chops, and peri-peri chicken that leave you satisfied.
  • It's a great spot for groups or families, with a relaxed and vibrant atmosphere that's perfect for unwinding with friends.
  • Value for money is spot on, especially with the tasty meals and the option for outdoor seating or private events.
  • The place is clean and well-presented, adding to that modern, welcoming vibe.
Cons
  • Shisha flavours can be hit or miss, with some folks noting they don't taste as strong or enjoyable as they'd hoped.
  • Seating can get a bit cramped, particularly if you're with a larger group and have to squeeze around one table.
  • There might be occasional hiccups with requests, like getting the spot you want, which can put a slight dampener on things.

Visited during half term, with two adults and six children. We requested to sit at the back which was initially denied but agreed to, they requested we only use one table as the children had spread out (to two tables) as they had other guests arriving - which was a bit cramped and for the duration of the visit we were the only diners! The service was good and responsive and the food was good (slightly overpriced), would return but with a smaller group.

I love the atmosphere, service, and overall experience at Engine Luton. The food is amazing, and the vibe is always great! However, recently, the shisha flavors haven’t been as enjoyable—no matter which one we choose, the taste just doesn’t come through as expected. This could definitely be improved, and I hope to see it back to its top quality soon!
