About This Pub

Ah, The Red Lion Hotel – it's one of those places that just feels like a proper British local, all wrapped up in an 18th-century building that's been lovingly refurbished. From what I've gathered from the reviews and their website, it's spot on for a good night out or a comfortable overnight stay. The rooms are a treat, with everything you need for a peaceful kip, and the food menu is packed with crowd-pleasers like their signature burgers and those hearty Sunday lunches that leave you feeling well satisfied. The staff really shine through, always on hand with a smile and that extra effort to make your visit memorable, as seen in stories from weddings and family get-togethers. On the flip side, it's not perfect – sorting out parking can be a bit tricky, and if you're there on a Monday, the restaurant's closed, which might cramp your plans. Still, with a solid 4.4 rating and plenty of five-star shout-outs for the tasty grub and central spot, I'd say it's well worth a visit if you're in the area. All in all, it's a welcoming spot that balances that old-school charm with modern comforts, making it a great choice for anyone looking for a bit of pub magic without the fuss.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The rooms are absolutely spot on – clean, comfortable, and kitted out with modern touches like flat-screen TVs and free WiFi, making for a proper relaxing stay.
  • The food is a real highlight; think homemade beef burgers, maple glazed salmon, and cracking Sunday roasts with fresh, seasonal veg – it's all tasty and caters to meat lovers, seafood fans, and veggies alike.
  • Staff are top-notch, always friendly and attentive, going the extra mile to make you feel welcome, whether you're popping in for a meal or staying overnight.
  • It's in the heart of Spalding, so you're right in the thick of things, easy to wander around on foot, and they've got live music and events that add a fun buzz to the place.
  • Great value overall, with lovely breakfasts and a welcoming atmosphere that makes it ideal for a weekend getaway or a casual night out.
Cons
  • Parking can be a bit of a faff to sort out, so you might end up having to park nearby and walk over, which isn't ideal if you're loaded up with bags.
  • The restaurant shuts its doors on Mondays, which could be a downer if you're planning a mid-week visit and fancy a bite.
  • Some of the older features, like creaky floors in the historic building, add character but might not suit everyone, especially if you're after a super quiet night.
  • While most reviews rave about it, there are a few niggles mentioned, like needing to double-check access details, so it's worth planning ahead.

Why only 2 stars. That's my question. The staff were welcoming and the rooms lovely and warm. Room 28 has an outside balcony, which is nice. Clean and a comfortable bed. I'd personally up there rating to 3. I'd definitely visit again.

Absolutely wonderful! We had our wedding meal here with our family and stayed over. The food was excellent! The hosts went above and beyond to make our day special. Evening atmosphere was wonderful and our room was lovely - as was breakfast. Thank you again! From Mr & Mrs Briggs! 🤩

Our room was very clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location is very central to access everywhere on foot. It is a bit perplexing finding out how to access the parking and you may need to park up in a car park to go in on foot to find out. It was worth the effort though. Our 2 dogs were welcomed to stay. We ate in the restaurant & that was very good. We found it was good value for everything that we needed for our stay.
