About This Pub
Ah, Prior's Oven – it's one of those pubs that just warms your cockles the moment you step inside. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the barman and the crowd are absolute gems, always up for a friendly natter, which really makes the place feel like a proper community hub. The real ales from local breweries are spot on, drawing from the town's rich history, and paired with the historic setting, it's got that authentic charm that's hard to beat. It's inexpensive too, so you can kick back without worrying about the tab. On the flip side, though, it's only open a handful of days, and the hours can be a bit all over the place, which might catch you out if you're not checking first. Plus, if you're in the mood for something livelier or a wider drink selection, it might not quite hit the mark – no music or lagers here, which is brilliant for a quiet catch-up but less so for a rowdy night. All in all, it's a cracking spot if you're after a genuine, down-to-earth experience, but worth noting those quirks to manage your expectations.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff and regulars are incredibly friendly, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in.
-
They've got a fantastic selection of local ales and ciders straight from the barrel – perfect if you're after something authentic and tied to the area's history.
-
It's a unique, cosy spot with real character, almost a thousand years old, which gives it that charming, old-school vibe.
-
Prices are really reasonable, so you can enjoy a pint without breaking the bank.
-
The atmosphere is peaceful and neighbourly, with no blaring music, which is a lovely change if you fancy a good chat over your drink.
Cons
-
It only opens a few days a week with varying hours, which can be a bit frustrating if you're planning a spontaneous visit.
-
The drinks menu is quite focused on ales and ciders, so if you're after lagers or something more mainstream, you might be out of luck.
-
Being a small micro pub, space could feel a tad limited on busier evenings, and there might not be much in the way of food options beyond a bag of crisps.
-
Their online presence seems a bit patchy – the website didn't load properly for me, so it's not the easiest place to check details ahead of time.

Unique lovely space that boasts a friendly neighborly atmosphere. Barman and all customers are friendly. They offer ales from local breweries, many of the names were drawn from the history of the town.
Lovely pub. Real ales and conversation in a unique venue. No music, or lager. Or till, for that matter. A joy.
My first visit, what a lovely little micro brewery pub. The New Mexico hoppy beer is nectar and with a bag of Scampi Fries it’s sublime.
This little pub is nearly a thousand years old.
The barman is very friendly and so
are the customers. Amazing character little pub!
Great little bar in the town centre. Local real ales straight from the barrel. Ciders also available.
One of my favourite bar in Spalding. If you looking for good and teasty Ales or looking for cosy place with lots of different gin I recommend that bar.
