About This Pub
Ah, The Red Deer – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a breath of fresh air, tucked away near Cumbernauld with easy access to Glasgow. From what I've gathered from the buzz around it, the place really shines with its hearty menu full of pub favourites like burgers and pizzas that are made fresh and leave you smiling. The staff are the heart of the operation, always cheerful and ready to help, whether it's recommending a drink or sorting out a special request – it's that kind of service that makes you feel right at home. And let's not forget the cosy atmosphere; picture settling in by a log fire or enjoying a pint in the gardens after a stroll in the nearby countryside – it's perfect for families or those with dogs in tow. On the flip side, there have been a few niggles, like the odd dish not quite living up to expectations, such as calamari that was a bit off in texture, but overall, it's minor compared to the positives. If you're after a spot that's welcoming and has a solid selection of drinks to boot, I'd say give The Red Deer a go – it's got that genuine country pub charm that'll make you want to come back for more.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food is spot on, with fresh pizzas and burgers that folks rave about – it's hearty and satisfying, perfect for a country pub vibe.
-
The staff are absolute gems; they're friendly, attentive, and go the extra mile, like sorting out massive amounts of gravy or serving with a smile even when they're having a tough day.
-
It's a cosy spot with a welcoming atmosphere, complete with a crackling fireplace and lovely gardens, making it ideal for relaxing after a walk in the nearby parks.
-
Dog-friendly and in a great location near Broadward Loch and Palacerigg Country Park, so it's brilliant if you're out and about with your furry mate.
-
They've got a well-stocked bar with cask ales, fine wines, and British gins, catering to all tastes for a proper pub experience.
Cons
-
Some dishes might not hit the mark every time, like the calamari being a bit chewy and cold in one instance, which is a shame when the rest is so good.
-
The operating hours seem a tad inconsistent from what's listed, so it's worth double-checking to avoid any surprises if you're planning a late visit.

Pizzas made fresh! Excellent. Amy the barmaid was amazing. So was the other girl (with the sore eye, sorry dont know name). But she was nice too.
Visited with the family and two dogs for my birthday after a long walk. Staff were wonderful, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Special mention to our dark/pink haired server who was really lovely and helped us out with a massive amount of gravy. You have my husband's regard for life! We'll definitely be back. Food was really lovely, pints were good, very well kept beer! Coffee and soft options also grand. Great wee beer garden if the sun honours you with its' presence. Cheers to you, The Red Deer, Slainte!
We rolled upto the Red Deer at 9.30pm after 5hours on the road to be greeted by Tyler with 5star service followed my the 5star signature burger that was by far 1 of the best burgers I have been served , and I've eaten some burgers 🤣 would highly recommend the place and Tyler's kitchen skills
Food was absolutely lovely, my partner had the best burger he's ever had and I had the calamari and baked scallops off the starter menu. The calamari was a little chewy and cold but still nice, the scallops were gorgeous. Service was great, there was a large table in at the same time and naimh was very apologetic about the wait despite us not booking.
The pub also stock non alcoholic options that aren't on the menu, I wish I'd known when I came in but got a Gordon's 0 on the second order.
Overall a lovely wee pub, the fires a welcome addition after a long cold walk!
Can’t fault. Nice and cozy atmosphere with a fireplace. Lovely food and cheery staff. Would definitely return.
