About This Pub

Ah, the Smiddy Inn in Cumbernauld – it's one of those pubs that really captures the heart of the community, with a warm and inviting atmosphere that's just right for everything from a quick pint to a full family meal. From what I've gathered from the buzz around, the staff are absolute stars; they're quick to apologise and fix any blunders, like sorting out a booking mishap or swapping a wrong dish without fuss. The food's often spot on too, especially with those cracking deals that keep things affordable, and it's a top choice for soaking up live sports action or joining in on events like the Women's Euros. The place has a lovely relaxed feel, with plenty of facilities to make everyone comfortable. But, on the downside, you might find yourself waiting a while for your order if the kitchen's playing catch-up, and there are times when the bar seems a bit short-handed, leading to slower service. Still, with an overall solid rating, it's worth a visit if you're after a genuine, down-to-earth spot – just pop in with an easygoing mindset, and you'll likely have a cracking time.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and always go the extra mile to sort out any issues, making you feel right at home.
  • Food deals are brilliant value, like getting two adult meals and two kids' ones for just £20 midweek – perfect for a budget-friendly night out.
  • It's a great spot for watching live sports and events, with TVs everywhere and a lively atmosphere that gets everyone buzzing.
  • The place has a welcoming, family-friendly vibe, with nice decor and amenities like being dog-friendly and having disabled facilities.
  • Overall, it offers a relaxing ambiance that's ideal for catching up with friends or enjoying a solo pint.
Cons
  • There can be long waits for food sometimes, which might leave you a bit peckish and frustrated if you're in a rush.
  • Occasional kitchen hiccups or booking mix-ups can throw a spanner in the works, as seen with some meals not quite hitting the mark, like bland macaroni cheese.
  • The bar might feel understaffed at times, leading to slower service when it's busy, which can dampen the experience.
  • While it's generally good, a few reviews mention it not always living up to expectations on quieter days.

Thank you to Gail for excellent customer service on Friday 13 June. Issue with our online booking but she managed to arrange a table despite being fully booked. I was given wrong meal but this was quickly sorted & Gail personally apologised & made up for the issues 🥂

First time trying the smiddy inn for food tonight, we had a table reserved so there was no wait to get in but we waited nearly an hour for our food to come out, with no update from staff during this time about the apparent issue they had in the kitchen, the macaroni cheese was awful and bland, the fish was very dry and overcooked, the small kids Chicago town pizza was burnt and couldn't even cut through the crust, the steak was asked to be done medium rare, and when brought out couldn't even cut through it so got that replaced and was brought out the same if not worse. It was quiet enough there and seemed like an ok atmosphere but the food and service was terrible would not recommend going to for food!

I am a regular at The Smiddy and feel the staff are most welcoming, thoughtful, responsive and friendly. However, on a recent visit (Wed 30/4) a very common issue/problem raised its head once more. On this particular afternoon there was one member of staff behind the bar. This poor girl had the task of serving customers who wanted a drink, customers who were ordering food and delivering food to both customers inside and outside the pub. There was also an instance where she had to go and change the Madri barrel on top of the aforementioned tasks. The girl's remit for the day was completely unachievable and impacted negatively on the service provided. I can only stress again that this is not a criticism in any shape or form on the staff but simply do not understand that such a problem is not an isolated incident.

Booked in for an ABBA tribute afternoon. Food was lovely and enjoyed by a large group. Fast service even when it was really busy. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would highly recommend. Great for family meals, catching up with friends, going for a few drinks, dining solo and great fun when joining the tribute afternoons. Have the option to Sir in or can dine outside, where there is a lovely garden area with patio heaters ect. Also have a great selection of cocktails.

Fantastic food, prices are also brilliant, through midweek 2 adult meals and 2 child’s meals £20!!! Top notch food. The place is decorated lovely with a nice relaxing ambience to the place, I could see the TVs everywhere even in booths for all the sports. Great place I will be back for sure.
