About This Pub

Ah, The Punchbowl – it's one of those pubs that just hits the spot for a proper British night out. From what I've gathered from the reviews, it's got that authentic, olde-style charm with a cosy interior that makes you want to settle in for the evening. The staff and locals are dead friendly, always up for a chat, which really adds to the welcoming feel – it's like walking into a room full of mates you've not met yet. The ales are a highlight, with a great choice that keeps things interesting, and it's open seven days a week, which is brilliant for popping in whenever the mood strikes. On the flip side, it doesn't seem to shout about itself online, so you might have to just turn up to see what's on offer, and if you're hoping for a hearty meal, it could fall a bit short based on the chatter. Overall, though, it's a gem for anyone after a genuine pub experience without the fuss – I'd say give it a go if you're in Abingdon and fancy a pint in a place that's got real heart.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is spot on – it's a proper, cosy traditional pub that makes you feel right at home, just like a classic British local should.
  • Staff and regulars are incredibly welcoming, creating that warm, friendly vibe where you can chat and feel part of the crowd.
  • They've got a fantastic selection of ales, like Morland, which is perfect for anyone who loves a good pint.
  • It's open every day from midday till midnight, so it's super convenient for a spontaneous get-together or a relaxed evening.
  • The place has a lively, positive energy with things like a decent jukebox to keep things entertaining.
Cons
  • There's no website listed, which makes it a bit tricky to check out menus or events in advance if you're planning a visit.
  • From what folks have said, it seems food isn't a big focus – one person gave it top marks just for the ale since they didn't eat, so it might not be the best spot if you're after a full meal.

Always a pleasure to be back at the Punchbowl when visiting Abingdon. You are guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome from staff and punters alike. Generally frequented by a lively and positive bunch of people. A genuinely positive experience always. Oh and just to add, it has a pretty decent jukebox too!!
