About This Pub
You know, chatting about The Broad Face feels like sharing a good yarn over a pint – it's got that welcoming vibe that's hard to beat. The food stands out as a highlight; whether it's the perfectly cooked lamb or the homemade pie with creamy mash, everything's presented beautifully and tastes spot on, making it a go-to for a satisfying meal. The drinks selection is another winner, with their rotating real ales and impressive gin range appealing to all sorts of tastes, and it's clear why they've been voted CAMRA pub of the year. Service-wise, the team is generally friendly and efficient, though you might notice a slight wobble if a newer member is serving, but they're clearly on the up and up. On the downside, those benches can be a tad unsteady, adding a quirky but not ideal element to the seating. All in all, it's a solid spot for catching up with friends by the river, and I'd say it's worth a visit for the positives alone, as long as you keep expectations balanced.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The food here is absolutely top-notch – think delicious, well-prepared dishes like seasonal lamb and homemade pies that leave you wanting more.
-
Service is warm and attentive; the staff really go the extra mile, even with new team members stepping up and improving all the time.
-
They've got a brilliant selection of drinks, from a rotating lineup of real ales to an extensive wine list and over 30 gins – perfect for a proper pint or something a bit fancier.
-
It's pet-friendly, so you can pop in with your four-legged companion for a relaxed visit.
-
The location by the river in Abingdon adds a lovely scenic touch, making it ideal for a leisurely meal or drinks with mates.
Cons
-
Some of the seating, like the benches in the booths, can be a bit rickety and squeaky, which might make for an uncomfortable sit if you're there for a while.
-
There might be the odd inconsistency with service when newer staff are on duty, though it doesn't seem to detract much from the overall experience.

Excellent food, i wasn’t daring enough to try something new, but it was absolutely stunning!
Service was great, we were served by someone new, but that didn’t take away from the experience one bit.
We were sat in a booth, the benches were a little rickety and squeaky, but perhaps that only added to the charm.
A little gem of a pub where you can enjoy a relaxing drink or, like us, have a meal. The menu is great and we enjoyed the seasonal lamb, cooked to perfection, and the pie of the day which was homemade and served with a creamy mash. Both dishes were beautifully presented and delicious and we were impressed with the wine list.
Staff were also so lovely and the added bonus is they are dog friendly.
This is a Gem in Abingdon the publican Joshua khan served us himself, had a lamb dish was absolutely amazing in desert had Bread and Butter pudding 🍮 wow , pet friendly and what excellent service, 5 star all the way . Certainly will be calling back when in Abingdon.
Cracking food & great service.
There is a new head chef, which is obvious from the new menu and much improved quality from previous years.
Excellent bar manger with a spot on level of service ( note: who is obviously in progress of up skilling his younger team, some some patience and understanding there)
Great for date nights.
We had a fantastic dining experience tonight. The new menu was impressive and the food was beautifully prepared. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked rib eye, while my mum savored the lamb, both of which were outstanding. The elderflower pannacotta and crumble were delightful finishes to our meal. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was perfect for a special occasion. We will definitely be visiting again! #supportlocal
