About This Pub

So, picture this: you're popping into The Kings Head & Bell for a cheeky pint or a bite to eat in Abingdon, and honestly, it's got that warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay for a while. The quiz nights are brilliant fun and stand out as the best around, drawing in a crowd for some lively entertainment. The food's another winner, with tasty burgers on offer, especially with those Tuesday deals, and they've got decent choices for everyone, including vegan options that hit the spot. Plus, the staff are absolute stars – they really make an effort, whether it's sorting out a special event like a birthday or just chatting over a drink, leaving you with that feel-good glow. But, and I say this as a mate would, it's not all perfect; there have been a few slip-ups with the food, like a disappointing vegetarian meal that was way too salty and unappetising, which is a shame when the rest is so good. And let's not forget the cocktails – they can be a bit of a letdown, coming out warm and flat when you expect something refreshing, so you might want to stick to the beers or wines instead. All in all, it's a solid spot for a get-together, with plenty of charm and a few quirks, making it worth a visit if you're in the area, just go in with your eyes open.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The quiz nights are an absolute highlight – they're the best in town and make for a fun evening with friends.
  • The food is generally spot on, especially with deals like two-for-one burgers on Tuesdays, and they've got tasty options like great fries and even vegan burgers.
  • The staff are brilliant and really go the extra mile, with folks like Sarah and the team making you feel right at home, whether it's for a casual drink or a special event.
  • It's a fantastic spot for celebrations, like birthdays, where the team helps everything run smoothly and creates a welcoming atmosphere.
  • The outdoor area is lovely for a relaxed pint, adding to the charm of this traditional pub in Abingdon.
Cons
  • Some food experiences can be a letdown, like the vegetarian options that were overly salty and congealed, as one person found with their Christmas meal.
  • The cocktails don't always hit the mark – they can be warm, flat, and not what you'd expect, making them a bit of a gamble at that price.
  • There's inconsistency in certain items, where something that looks promising, like a Tennessee Ice Tea, ends up being more of a disappointment than a treat.

I always love a cheeky pint at the kings - The quiz is the best in town and the food is good (especially two for one burgers on Tuesdays ) also Sarah is amazing !! 👍🏻

Was so disappointed with my Christmas meal last night, I opted for the vegetarian option. It was not the usual good food that I have previously experienced here. I couldn't tell you if the vegetables were any good because the plate was covered in a dark congealed (supposedly gravy) which was so salty that it masked the taste of the food...the turkey options were the same. You normally have to ask for more gravy, not have the whole meal covered like it's a sauce! The waiter was very pleasant but the wait for the pre-ordered meals was far too long.

What a brilliant venue for my 40th birthday. From start to finish, the team were so helpful and couldn’t have done more on the run up to, and on the night of, to make it run so smoothly. Special thanks to Paul for all of his help in the set up, and for Mason and team on the night.

A great place in Abingdon to drink and eat. They have great fries by the way. We tried beer battered fried onions and garlicky chicky fries. They were fantastic. And vegan burgers are also nice.

Nice looking pub with good outdoor area, let down by the cocktails and food. I ordered a Tennessee Ice Tea for nearly 8 pounds. Was absolutely rubbish not what I call a cocktail! I had to go back up for more ice as the coke was warm and flat. See photo it's really a joke calling this a cocktail! Food we had the dirty fries with chicken pieces, sauces were lacking was just all a bit dry and bland. Sadly all a bit disappointing as the menu looks great! One positive they have some good beers on draft!
