About This Pub

Ah, The Prince George on St Albans Road – what a gem it is for anyone in Watford looking for a proper pub experience. I've got to say, the food really steals the show; those South African specials like the sausage and mash or the chicken burger are fresh, tasty, and come in generous portions that leave you satisfied without breaking the bank. The team behind the bar are an absolute joy, always on hand with a smile and quick to sort you out, which makes the whole place feel warm and inviting, especially if you're popping in with the family or a group of mates. It's got that easy-going atmosphere that's perfect for a casual lunch or a Sunday roast that people can't stop raving about. On the flip side, though, it's a shame it's shut on Mondays, and the kitchen clocks off a bit early some evenings, so you might have to time your visit just right if you're fancying a late supper. All in all, it's a solid choice for good grub and good times, but worth keeping those opening hours in mind to avoid any disappointment – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The food here is an absolute delight, with standout South African-inspired dishes like the Boerwors sausage and mash or the bunny chow sliders – they're packed with flavour and feel like a proper treat.
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and attentive, always making sure you've got everything you need, which really adds to the welcoming atmosphere.
  • It's a brilliant spot for families or groups, with a kids' menu and a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to pop in for a meal or a drink.
  • Prices are spot on for what you get – reasonable without skimping on quality, so you won't feel short-changed after your visit.
  • The overall atmosphere is just lovely, whether you're there for a quick bite or to enjoy a Sunday roast, which folks rave about as one of the best around.
Cons
  • It's closed on Mondays, which can be a bit of a letdown if you're hoping for a mid-week pint or meal.
  • Kitchen hours wrap up fairly early on some days, like by 9pm on weekdays, so you might need to plan ahead if you're out late.
  • From what I've seen, it might not suit everyone if you're after a buzzing nightlife scene, as things quiet down earlier in the evenings.

Popped in here for a bite to eat as I was in the area. I had the South African Sausage and Mash and was taken aback with how tasty it was... The Boerwors Sausage had a really good bbq / chargrilled flavour. The mash and vegetables were spot on, and the gravy was so flavoursome. If I ever find myself in the area again I will definitely be back.

Love having this family friendly pub so close to home, the atmosphere is always good, everyone that works there is friendly, always attentive in ensuring you have everything you need. The roast is honestly unbelievable, best pub roast I have ever had! One of our favourite spots to visit throughout the year as a family or a meet up with friends!
