About This Pub

Ah, Dunnings Bar – it's one of those places that just draws you in with its blend of traditional Irish warmth and a bit of modern flair, and I've got to say, it's become a firm favourite for a good night out in Watford. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with that cosy, friendly atmosphere that's perfect for catching up with mates over a pint, and the staff go out of their way to make sure everything runs smoothly, whether you're there for a quick drink or a full meal. The food's a standout; their Sunday roast is an absolute treat, with juicy lamb or whatever takes your fancy, paired with all the proper sides that leave you feeling satisfied without breaking the bank. And if you're into sports, well, it's a dream – with all those screens, you can soak up the Premier League, Formula 1, or even GAA without any hassle. On the flip side, though, it does get packed during big games, which can make it a bit overwhelming if you're hoping for a peaceful evening, and those operating hours might need a closer look to avoid any surprises. All in all, it's a solid choice for anyone looking for a genuine, enjoyable pub experience – I'd definitely pop in if you're nearby, but keep in mind it might not be the quietest spot on the block.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The atmosphere is absolutely spot on – it's warm, welcoming, and has that classic Irish charm that makes you feel right at home.
  • The food is a real highlight; their Sunday roast is spot-on, with tender meats, crispy Yorkshires, and all the trimmings at a surprisingly good value.
  • It's brilliant for sports fans, with 12 screens showing everything from the Premier League to GAA, so you won't miss a moment of the action.
  • The staff are top-notch – friendly, efficient, and always up for a chat, making every visit feel personal and enjoyable.
  • Prices are reasonable for what you get, and they've got a great selection of bars and seating areas that you can even book in advance.
Cons
  • The operating hours can be a tad confusing, especially with those varying Sunday times listed, which might leave you double-checking before heading out.
  • It can get quite lively and busy, particularly during big events or match days, so if you're after a quiet spot, it might not always hit the mark.
  • While it's got a fresh modern twist, some might miss a more traditional feel, as the updates blend old and new in a way that doesn't suit everyone's taste.

Been to this Irish pub a few times. Good atmosphere with welcoming staff and clientele. Food is excellent and surprisingly good value (Sunday Roast). Plenty of TV’s to watch sport and good location for Watford Junction Station.

Went in on Saturday night before the caraboa cup final, as a Geordie in the south you hear lots of stories, this was the most welcoming place we could have found ,how lucky we were, great atmosphere, friendly people, Guinness of a quality I haven't had other than in Dublin, and as for prices it was actually cheaper than Newcastle, I cannot thank the locals , staff and people who were there enough that night. Thank you very much. Hoping to see you every year now.

Thank you Dunnings for making St Patrick's day such a great evening. The bar staff were so efficient and very welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. Especially when we got hungry they put the chip fryer on just for us all Thanks to the landlady.

I recently enjoyed a Sunday roast at Dunnings Bar, and it was excellent. The cozy, welcoming atmosphere made it the perfect spot for a relaxed meal. I had the roast lamb, which was cooked to perfection—tender and juicy—with crispy Yorkshire puddings and golden roast potatoes. The vegetables were fresh and flavorful, and the rich gravy tied everything together perfectly. Service was friendly and attentive. If you're looking for a traditional Irish hearty Sunday roast, Dunnings is a must-visit!!
