About This Pub

Ah, The Plough & Harrow – it's one of those reliable Wetherspoon spots that you can always count on for a good value pint and a hearty meal without fuss. I've got to say, what stands out most is how spacious it is; whether you're popping in for a quick drink or settling in for some food, there's usually room to breathe, which is a nice change from the packed houses nearby. The staff are often cheerful and make you feel right at home, and the food doesn't disappoint – think generous portions and classics that hit the spot every time. On the flip side, it can get a bit heaving during peak times, and I've heard a few grumbles about having to use the app for ordering, which isn't everyone's cup of tea if you're after that traditional pub chat. Plus, it's showing its age a tad, with that worn-in look that adds character but might not appeal to those seeking something more modern. All in all, it's a solid choice for a laid-back evening with mates, as long as you're prepared for the occasional hiccup – and fingers crossed it sticks around, because it's got that authentic Hammersmith charm that's hard to beat.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The prices are incredibly affordable, making it a brilliant spot for a cheeky pint or a bite without breaking the bank.
  • There's loads of seating both inside and out, so you can usually find a cosy corner or a table in the fresh air.
  • The staff are generally friendly and welcoming, which really adds to the relaxed vibe.
  • The food portions are generous and tasty, with a good variety on offer from the classic Wetherspoon menu.
  • It has that earthy, local Hammersmith charm, giving it a genuine pub feel that's a cut above some of the more polished chains.
Cons
  • It can get pretty crowded at times, especially if the nearby pubs are buzzing, making it tough to snag a seat.
  • Ordering through the app is often necessary, which might feel a bit fiddly if you're not tech-savvy or just fancy a chat at the bar.
  • Service can be a tad inconsistent; sometimes you might have to go up and order yourself rather than being approached.
  • The place has a worn and dated look, which could do with a refresh to keep things feeling fresh.
  • There's talk of it closing, which would be a real shame and leaves you wondering about its future.

BONKERS DECISION BY WETHERSPOON TO CLOSE THIS PUB! The nearby William Morris pub can get far too busy on occasions, leading to a struggle to find anywhere to sit. No chance, if not using the app for ordering. Spoons STILL doesn't grasp that some areas need more than one pub, as the existing pub they leave behind is unable to cope at times. This was my preferred branch to visit, when I was in the area. ---- Updated review (1st and 15th Dec) for a Wetherspoons I've been to many times over the years. Hammersmith's second, and cheaper Wetherspoons pub, located a little bit further down King St. Although worth the short walk from the tube station. Prices are somewhat lower (in the region of 25-50p+, depending on the item) than the William Morris on a number of food and drink items. For Example, A Traditional Breakfast here is still under a fiver. Now over a fiver (£5.45?) at William Morris. A Wetherspoons pub that is currently up for sale (yet again!), despite the pub being quite busy when I visited (Evening of Sunday 1st Dec). It was in this situation a few years ago, only for Wetherspoons to change their mind. Quite frankly, yet another barmy decision by Wetherspoons to even consider closing this. Especially when there is a Holiday Inn Express directly above it. Noticed they had on three guest ales on my visit. Unlike the William Morris, it is nearly always possible to get a table, inside or out. ---- (Edit 15th Dec 2024) Pub was not too busy on this occasion, however trade did pick up during my visit. Food and drink arrived in good time. On this visit had Sticky Korean Fried Chicken Bowl and a pint of Leffe Blonde for £10.02. As you can see from enclosed image, food was well prepared and presented, with a good portion given. ---- If you wish to see this Wetherspoons saved from the chop, then frequent it whenever possible. To highlight to the powers that be, it is needed in the area!

Plenty of seating and space inside and outside along the building. Sometimes it gets crowded. The pub is connected to the Wethersoon chain so the menu is the same as there. Plenty to choose from with a glass of drink if you decide to grab a bite. Or you can just drop in and order drinks. Spacious, with a lively atmosphere.

Absolutely wonderful spoons! Staff are extremely friendly and the food and portion sizes are absolutely great! Toilets are also very well maintained! Will definitely be coming back!

I wanted to stop while on a business trip for an English Pub experience. The sat down and was waiting for someone to come take my order. I was wondering why the servers were standing not 3 meters from me but were not coming by. Finally, I got up and went to the bar and asked if I ordered there. I was told yes. I was not aware that you need to tell them your table number and then go to the bar to order. I order the Hamburger meal for £5.44. It was just ok. There were a couple really small pieces of lettuce and a couple of slivers of onion and a tomato slice. I was sure there was supposed to be cheese but there was none. The burger was very dry and seemed to be overcooked. It tasted ok. If you wanted mustard or ketchup, you had to go to another area to get them yourself. Most people were just having a pint so I am not sure if most people come here for something to eat. It was ok but I would not go back.

Have liked and enjoyed this pub for many years. It's a bit worn and now dated, but makes up for it in earthy atmosphere. Touches of real Hammersmith! Food was good, and the service is okay. Much better Wetherspoons than the other one at the end of the same street. Now, amazingly... Even lower prices on both the food and drinks. You really won't find cheaper. Go... Enjoy!
