About This Pub

Ah, The Pied Calf in Spalding – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper community hub, you know? From what I've gathered, the team there really go the extra mile to make you feel at home; they're polite, attentive, and always up for a chat, which adds such a warm touch to the whole experience. The food stands out as a real winner – think fresh, hot meals like fish and chips or hunter's chicken at brilliant prices, and they've got daily deals that make it easy on the wallet, especially if you're popping in for a quick lunch or dinner. It's got all the perks you'd want for a laid-back day out, with a beer garden for sunny afternoons, live sports to catch the big games, and it's even dog-friendly and family-oriented, so it's versatile for different occasions. On the flip side, it's not going to wow you with fancy decor or gourmet twists – it's straightforward British pub fare through and through, which might not suit if you're in the mood for something more refined. Plus, there might be a bit of hassle if the opening hours aren't crystal clear, so I'd suggest checking ahead. All in all, it's a gem for anyone looking for good value, solid vibes, and that classic pub atmosphere without any pretence – I'd definitely recommend giving it a go if you're in the area.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, always ready with a smile and helpful advice, making every visit feel like catching up with old mates.
  • The food is spot on – cooked fresh to order, with great value deals like two pub classics for just £12.99, and it's hearty, tasty grub that hits the spot every time.
  • It's a cosy, historic spot in the heart of Spalding with lovely facilities like a beer garden, dog-friendly vibes, and live sports on the telly, perfect for a relaxed afternoon or evening out.
  • Prices are reasonable, with specials for pensioners and affordable drinks, so you can enjoy a proper pint without breaking the bank.
Cons
  • It might not be the fanciest place if you're after something upscale – it's more of a traditional, no-frills pub that keeps things straightforward.
  • There could be some confusion with opening times, as the status seems a bit unclear, so it's worth double-checking before heading out to avoid any disappointment.

A local pub all meals cooked to order and hot. James and his team are always friendly, polite and helpful. They do a great pensioners deal everyday. The beer is kept well and prices are great. 2 meals just over £18 for fish chips and mushy peas and 2 drinks. If you are looking for fancy you won't find it here. What you will find is pub classics, build your own burger and great staff. Thumbs up to James and his staff from me.

I went to Spalding yesterday and decided to have lunch in the pied calf. I was greeted by the friendly person Behind the bar, I believe to be James, a very nice polite man. After we had lunch, I asked James, who the cook was, he said, a man called Darren? So thank you, Darren, for the lovely food. And the perfect service Nothing was too much trouble for the staff today. I believe James to be a good asset to the company. Very professional it's nice to go somewhere where you feel warm and inviting.

Wow! Wow! Wow! I have lived here for years and only just discovered this place has magnificent food! The quality is outstanding, and the value for money is second to none! We used to eat at the local Wetherspoons, but no more! The Pied Calf knocks the socks off Spoons when it comes to quality, choice, and price, and the staff are wonderful! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 P.S. I ate my food without taking a picture, but the picture of the double burger on the menu is exactly what I got!
