We didn't mind waiting for our three roast dinners, as the pub was busy. Two plates of food arrived, but we had to wait for the other plate and the cutlery. We spoke to three members of staff before it was sorted out. When all the food finally arrived, it was cold and the vegetables were overcooked. None of the staff checked on us to see if we were enjoying our meals. They seemed indifferent to us. As we were hungry, we ate our food and left. We won't be going back again for either food or drinks.
Had an impromptu Sunday Lunch, we arrived a bit late but there was enough tables Very friendly staff, clearly worked well together, very helpful with the decision making process, good choice of wines not all ‘new world!’ The Roasts were pretty standard Pub food plenty on the plate! The people around seemed to be enjoying their meals as well.
Great pub.....and dog friendly! At last.....a pub you can take dogs into.... hallelujah! Dogs are allowed in a small area to the front of the pub by the entrance, but that's fine! But if busy, there might not be space if you do take your dogs, so check first. Food was lovely (steak and onion ciabatta and fish finger sandwich) - fish fingers were clearly home made, and all the better for it.... delicious! Staff are great as well.... friendly and efficient, and serve at the table. All-in-all, a great lunch in a nice pub....and we could relax with our dogs! PS: if you are not a dog fan, then don't be put off visiting this pub as there is plenty of other seating well away from the small dog bar!
Update 5th Jan 2025 - change of owner since my last review, but still a great place to visit for a drink and a meal. It was very quiet when we visited, but then it was the first weekend of the new year, so kind of expected. Anyway, great food and great friendly service! I had the fish pie with a side of handcut chips and it was delicious. My wife had the fish and chips, which she said was great! The food is freshly prepared and piping hot, and as I say, very tasty! Well worth a visit!!
Pretty decent lunch, wild boar sausages and mash. Couldn't eat all the mash and not enough gravy and peas. Sausages were tasty though. Friend has the beef stew, a bit watery bit she said it had flavour. Xmas pudding was small for £5.50. Cheesecake was nice. Not the cheapest of pub grub, would probably have a sandwich next time.
5 stars for the pub itself and the very friendly staff, but 3 stars for the food unfortunately. Lovely old pub with a great beer garden. We visited on a sunny Sunday and it was marvelous soaking up the sun drinking a cold Estrella. The beef roast was a bit of a let down, the veggies we're soggy, the meat a little tough, and the Yorkie was a bit old. Will give them another chance as my partner says she's had a few good meals here.
