About This Pub
Ah, The Phoenix – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a proper local spot, you know? From what I've gathered from the chats online, it's got this heartwarming vibe where the team, especially Cathy, are always pitching in for charity and organising lovely events for everyone, from tea afternoons for the older crowd to festive dos for the kids. You'll find the drinks are reliably good, whether it's a smooth pint or a refreshing glass of wine, and the atmosphere is just right – not too rowdy, with some decent music in the background and a real sense of camaraderie. It's dead handy being so close to the station, perfect for popping in after a day out. On the flip side, it's a shame about the lack of info on opening times; I've had mates moan about turning up only to find it shut, and without a website, it's not the easiest to check things out beforehand. Still, if you're after an authentic, down-to-earth pub experience rather than something flashy, it's well worth a visit – just go with the flow and enjoy the craic!
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff are absolutely lovely and welcoming, always going the extra mile for the community.
-
It's a real community hub with fantastic events like tea and cake afternoons for seniors, and fun activities for kids during holidays.
-
The drinks are spot on – think a perfect pint of Guinness or a nice glass of wine in a relaxed setting.
-
The atmosphere is warm and lively, with good music at just the right level and plenty of friendly chats among the regulars.
-
Its location right next to the station makes it super convenient for a quick stop after travels.
Cons
-
There aren't any clear operating hours listed, which can make planning a visit a bit of a faff.
-
No website means it's tricky to get more details online before heading over.
-
It has that classic old-school pub feel, which might not suit everyone if you're after something more modern or if you're not a local.

Nice Pub. Cathy does alot there for Charity and the local community. Nice tea and cake afternoons for our senior Citizens monthly. Does lots for the kids! Easter,Christmas ect. Lovely friendly staff. Nice people/locals community hub for many. Pop in for a pint or a glass of wine. Also available for wakes. Anything you require pop in and ask.
Had a great Mother’s Day afternoon tea at the phoenix with my mum today. The food was amazing. Lovely and fresh. Good music. Great atmosphere. Thank you Kathy for all your hard work.
Great service, nice pub and a perfect pint of guinness.
Right next to the c2c station to London.
Superb little boozer. Met a mate there for a beer, never been there before. I think this is what people that don't go to pubs imagine an old English boozer is like...punters respectful and polite, ok prices, lots of chatting and laughter, everyone welcome. Old fashioned English pub. Remember pubs like this from years ago. Yes dodgy music and staff were busy.
Would I go again/recommend? Absolutely... going to take more of us next time.
Location is subjective of course but for me, walk 10 mins, train 8 mins, walk 2mins for a hidden gem. Perfect!
Called in for a few drinks after completing the Upminster - Rainham stage of the London Loop. I;d say both a locals pub and a drinkers pub, but none the worse for either of those too facts. There was good music in the background at a sensible level. I drank inside the the beer garden looked good. I'd describe the Phoenix as a 'proper pub'.
