About This Pub
You know, when I think about The Egerton Arms, it's got that real community pub charm that's hard to beat – picture yourself settling in for a pint while the telly's on with live sports, or joining in on a karaoke night where the energy just lifts your spirits. The staff can be stars, making sure you're looked after and helping create memorable evenings, and those drink offers are a proper treat for anyone watching their pennies. But, on the flip side, it's not all smooth sailing; I've heard from a few that the service can vary wildly, with some feeling less than welcome or even a bit intimidated, which is a shame when you're just there for a good time. Then there's the plastic glasses after hours and that reputation for things getting a bit heated outside, which might make you pause before recommending it to everyone. Overall, it's worth a visit if you're in Stockport and up for a bit of fun, but go in with your eyes open and maybe plan for a quieter evening to get the best out of it.
Pros and Cons
Pros
-
The staff can be absolutely brilliant when they're on form – think attentive servers like Hester or the friendly faces of Steph and Kim, who really make you feel at home with their warm welcomes and top-notch service.
-
It's got a cracking atmosphere, especially during events like karaoke nights or live sports screenings for football, rugby, and more – perfect for a fun evening out with mates.
-
The drink offers are unbeatable and affordable, with great value deals that make it easy on the wallet, especially if you're popping in for a casual pint or to catch up over a summer special.
-
As a community pub, it has a welcoming vibe overall, with things like live entertainment and an outside area that add to the lively feel, making it a go-to spot in Stockport.
Cons
-
Some staff interactions can be a bit off-putting; there are tales of feeling unwelcome or even threatened, which puts a damper on the night and isn't what you'd hope for in a local spot.
-
The policy of serving drinks in plastic glasses after 11 PM might feel a tad restrictive and spoil the mood, especially if you're just wanting to relax without the hassle.
-
It's got a reputation for occasional scuffles outside, which could make you think twice about lingering too long or heading there if you're after a completely peaceful pint.
-
Not every visit is a winner – a few folks have mentioned it doesn't always live up to expectations, leaving you with a mixed bag of experiences.

Was good, but staff was horrendous, and after 11.oo, would only serve in plastic glasses. Didn't feel welcome at all from staff, and even felt threatened. Because we questioned this they refused to serve us. Not as if we are youngsters, I am 64, my wife 62. Absolutely madness. Can anyone tell me another pub that serves drinks in the bar in plastic glasses?
Hester was the best server I’ve had. She was so attentive and mage sure I had a great night. We came on foodie Friday and even though it was busy she made sure everyone who entered the pub had the best night out. Really recommend coming here and having a great night like I did thanks to Hester.
Great atmosphere, fabulous bar staff and the prices are great too.
Came in on Sunday night karaoke and great atmosphere the bar staff Steph and Kim were the best in in the uk friendly happy and polite made me feel at home will be using this pub as my new regular fantastic place and people
Not the best, and is well known for many fights happening outside of it. Personally my only gripe with the place is that they force you to put drinks into plastics if you’re taking them into their small backdoor smoking area — but given its reputation, I think that I understand
