About This Pub

Ah, The White Lion Coaching House – it's one of those pubs that just feels like a hidden gem in Stockport, you know? From what folks are saying, it's got this lovely big space inside, split over two floors, so there's loads of room to spread out and enjoy a pint without the hustle and bustle. The staff really stand out; they're dead helpful and make you feel right at home, whether it's recommending a drink or sorting out something special like keeping the kitchen open a bit later for your group. The food's a winner too – think hearty lunches with offers on, and drinks-wise, they've got a good range of ales that hit the spot. On the flip side, it's a shame the website's not up and running properly, as that could make planning a visit a tad frustrating. And while the opening hours are flexible, they do tend to wrap up earlier than some might like, so it's not the place for a late sesh. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're after a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere with great grub and brews – I'd say give it a go if you're in the area, as the positive vibes from recent visitors really shine through.

Pros and Cons

Pros
  • The pub's got a really spacious interior with plenty of seating, making it easy to find a spot for a chat or a meal without feeling cramped.
  • Staff are incredibly friendly and helpful – they go the extra mile, like keeping the kitchen open late or even putting the footy on for you.
  • They've a great selection of drinks, including real ales, and the food's spot on, with highlights like the best mushroom soup I've heard of.
  • It's not too noisy, so you can actually have a proper conversation, which is a nice change from some busier spots.
Cons
  • The website seems to be down or not working properly, which might make it tricky to check menus or book ahead online.
  • Closing times can feel a bit early, especially if you're hoping for a late-night pint, though it varies so it's worth double-checking.

Yes, it was my first time in this pub. Big place so lots of seating and room. Serves food and has a great array of drink. Staff are very friendly, and if your having a top shelf drink, they serve it in a heavy glass, I was impressed with this. Not too loud, you can sit and have a conversation, and it has an outdoor area. I like this place, give it a try.

First visit today but will definitely return. Mushroom soup was the best I’ve ever had. The staff were all friendly and very helpful. Would definitely recommend.

Booked to eat here with some work colleagues. They kept the kitchen open a little later for us after meetings and the service and food were great. Good selection of ales too, really pleased. Put the football on for us too which was really appreciated. Would highly recommend

Went to the white lion today for the first time and it was brilliant! I don’t often write reviews but I had to because what a little gem! The food was spot on for midweek lunch, made better as they currently have an offer on which I didn’t realise until I paid (I spotted the sign on the way out and not the way in). The staff were all helpful and lovely. Would definitely recommend!

Making my first ever visit to this pub. Casta tells me it recently reopened after being shut for many years. Before that he tells me it did not sell real ale. It is a surprisingly large pub split over two floors. There are 4 handpumps. Only two in use on my visit. Had a good pint of Weetwood Cheshire Cat. The other offering being the awful Sharpe's Doombar. Lovely stain glass windows, high quality refurb. Food looks good and fairly priced. Will return to give it a go.
