About This Pub
Ah, The Pennyweight in Darlington is one of those pubs that really captures the essence of a good old British local – it's got that rich history as a former bakehouse, which gives it a bit of character and warmth. You'll find the food spot on for the most part, with hearty classics like pies and fish and chips that are locally sourced and come in generous portions, perfect for when you're after something comforting. The atmosphere is just right for a laid-back evening, whether you're settling in for a chat or enjoying a real ale, and it's ace that they welcome dogs, making it ideal for a casual outing. On the flip side, there have been a few niggles from visitors about how some dishes are put together – like that beef and ale pie where the gravy's already splashed on, leaving little room for personal tweaks – and occasionally, the service might not be as attentive as you'd hope, with staff not popping over to check if everything's alright. All in all, it's a solid choice for a pint and a bite with friends, but keep in mind it has its ups and downs, so go in with an open mind and you'll likely have a cracking time.

It's dog-friendly, which is brilliant if you're popping in with your furry friend after a walk.
Cons
-
There can be the odd mishap with how dishes are served, like that gravy situation with the pie, which might leave you wanting more control over your meal.
-
Service isn't always spot-on, with some folks noting that staff don't check in much once your food arrives.
-
A few complaints about specific items, such as the burger not living up to expectations, so it might pay to choose carefully.

Really don’t rate the PW Burger or the person who deleted and blocked my comment on Facebook. But here you got the PW Burger…..
This is a stylish bar on the main square of Darlington. The interior had a relaxed and easy going atmosphere and the staff were friendly. The menu was vast. The portion sizes were enormous and the food was delicious. Another great thing was that dogs are welcome in this venue.
Passing through and passed by the establishment and was peckish so thought I would pop in. Served by a friendly young man behind the bar who poured me a pint of beer and offered me a food menu. I had fish and chips :) Very nice atmosphere and good food. :)
Popped in yesterday after visiting the cinema. bar man greeted us i ordered the beef n ale pie i was very disappointed at the fact that the gravy was put in the plate first then the pie and mash .it left me no choice in how much gravy i wanted i stopped eating it also nobody ask how the food was. I did tell the man that cleared the table he was very polite and said he would tell the chef apart from that its a lovely pub been popping in for over 20 years
